Parkville wrote: <quoted text> The referees are not held accountable for their blown calls. Mike Periero gets on the NFL Network and tries to explain it as if they always made the right call. They say that they are rated for each game, but has anyone ever been suspended or fired for making a bogus, game-changing call? Hochuli and Carollo should both be suspended several games(at least) for their terrible calls. Why can't instant replay be used to overturn an officials call? Because the NFL is more interested in not making the refs look bad than getting the calls right. RIPKEN From Nottingham, of BEER BURRRRRP Mentality, is quick to call people names while being so naive he just doen not understand the real issues here. Still believes in Easter and the tooth fairy. Quite simply put, the Officials are NOT ACCOUNTABLE in the NFL or for that matter any sport. They may be rated internally and if enough bad calls are made they should not get the better assignments i.e. playoffs or Superbowl (similar to Tennis umpires). BUT when a game turns on a BLATENTLY BAD call and it happens often, someone should be accountable. Instead we get the NFL cover-up and bail-out plan. Followed by the GAG ORDER under threat of Penalty to even speak about it!!! Come on NFL, before we BOYCOTT- Lets be fair here and let some Ref calls be reviewable, as well as close calls like the Mason touchdown that escaped a red flag last week because the home field held up the video feed- knowing that it was a bad call. Lastly, the US Constitution should allow equal hiring for these NFL Ref jobs regardless of age or gender. I look foward to reading about a sucessful suit where a women or younger person was denied a job improperly, Okay, maybe there a few "token" black officials, but all I seem to see are older slow thinking white guys that need an eye exam. The numbers speak volumes for themselves. Face it, the NFL's inner circle has not really changed that much from the days when black players had to stay in black hotels and enter resturants from the back door. Why not female Refs- are you saying a woman can not do the job? Those myths have been busted long ago to all of those macho Beer Burp dudes out there. Peace America.

How does a missed call lead to the conclusion that the NFL discriminates in its hiring of referees?

ONCE AGAIN the small minded D**mb A** Ripken of Nottingham killed too many brain cells in the hops and missed the point. Here we are looking at the larger issue of Refs- the qualifications, mental and physical ability, financial disclosure, how selected and just why there seems to be an inordinate amount of older white guys blowing calls. Obviously, the crews that we have seen this year through out the league have been ERROR PRONE, not just with the Ravens. On this play, the Officiating team failed to stop play when offsides was called so the play should have been whistled dead. Instead, play continued and the head slap was called IN GROSS ERROR. BUT earlier, no penalty was called when on an offsides whistle Flacco was thrown on the ground. BOGGLES THE MIND to believe this is ONLY a blown call. Let's not be naive, but suppose Tony Soprano made an Official an offer he could not refuse to make book on a sure thing. To us there is merely a blown call and to Tony it's a windfall. Likely scenario? Thus, the bottom line is that some method is needed to review the officials decision in certain critical calls with out underminning the authority of the officials on the field. Perhaps an additional off field official whom will review video on close calls and has the power to stop play. Not only would that provide more TV commercial revenue when play is halted.

Here's why if you don't like Hines Ward, you just don't appreciate the game -- it's from today's NY Post:
"Pittsburgh's Hines Ward is among the very best - and most underrated - receivers in history. He catches and blocks. He might be responsible for as many yards as a downfield blocker as he is as a pass-catcher. Now 32, he became the Steelers' all-time leading receiver at 29!
But TV would have us think of Moss, and Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson and Burress - stage hogs - as the best of the best.
TV could do so much better, every week, every game. As for now, if only Ward had played like a selfish jerk he wouldn't be terribly underrated; he'd be overrated."
I'm grateful to get a chance to see a real football player like Ward, every time the Steelers play. Hines Ward you are the man!

hines ward is and always has been a great blocker. he is a very dirty player though. his receiving skills have diminished at least this year. i consider ward an overrated receiver at this point although in his prime he was underrated. to mention ward on the same breath as moss, owens or even burress is comical.

Man! I've been a Titans season ticket holder for 10 years now, and I just happened onto this forum and Man! What a bunch of whiners! And, no, the next week was no better. Hmmm. Get any bad calls in Colts game to excuse that drubbing?

Besides the officials don't lose the games, the players do and ours are just not good enough. In 13 years they have been in many big games and have only been able to win the Super Bowl just one time. For all the talk this defense does you'd think it was the second coming of Jesus. So Ravens don't complain about not getting any prime time spotlight games you DON'T DESERVE IT!!!!! My sentiments exactly!(And I corrected your typo for you in the quote. LOL)
