It's hard to read anything into this right now with OTA just beginning. Kampman is a pro and I just find it hard to believe that he would not give an effort to see if this change will work for him. He has always given 100%, so I think it is too early to draw any conclusions and this seems more speculative that anything else. Glad there are other articles to comment on about our current players.

Hey wal! I will find the article for you but the gist is DD isnt happy ( supposedly) with his deal,Nick Collins dad pastaway but hes staying away until there is a new deal on its way ( or at least progress).
I dont know what to make of Kampman, but,im sure when his sack numbers drop,he will be pissed but when folks realize hes more then a sack machine and plays well and the Packers throw some bucks at him,he will be fine!
now on a great note Justin Harrell ( now all Packer fans KNOCK ON WOOD NOW!) is feeling better and may ACTUALLY PLAY! this year!
3 potential bad situations and a good note.
i cant wait to see some hitting, blitzing. Our defense was so predictable last year we were calling the plays from our couches,so maybe with this new defense,2 good defensive minds at work, blitz packages,we could very easily keep offenses off balance and if the offense can produce, AR keeping his TD/INT ratio in good balance,we can stay healthy,Grant can play healthy unlike his hammy problem last year.and with a bigger oline should improve the running game.
I just hope we can get a punter who can average 40 per punt and net 37 or so with good coverage. If health stays and the guys can adjust to the new defense early and improve all season, there is no reason why the Packers cant win the division.

I read where the Packers want to see if Collins can handle the 3-4 concept before they dish out a bunch of dough to him. I know his Dad just passed so maybe that might be playing into this some. Him missing the entire OTA would not be a good thing from his perspective as far as learning this new concept. The Packers do have Anthony Smith who has played in this system and was a starter for the Steelers plus the secondary coach also came from the Steelers, so there might be something there. As for Driver, maybe TT should add a few more incentives to his contract based on performance to resolve this issue. Harrell is not worth commenting on at this point in my opinion.

Ted seems to take care of his own,so im sure Driver will get his.Im just wondering if Jennings gets his huge deal,if that will effect Driver? hes been the ultimate pro his whole career here up til now,so im figuring all is well.
Harrell hasn't done squat so far, but, the fact they say he hasn't felt this good in a while is a good sign and maybe he can actually play the season without alot of difficulty and may be productive on top of that, who knows.
i only comment on him as (1) hes a first round pick and we need some production out of him (2) The Packers didn't sign a whole lot of interior dlineman,so im thinking they are depending on J.H. abit more then we are

Yep; Driver's value goes beyond playing as he has been a key guy for the younger players to learn from, so I hope TT will work with him on the contract. Collins staying out for an extended period could become an issue unless Smith can cover. I'm not sure if Smith played free/strong safety with the Steelers or both. He is a talented guy where playing for GB could make him a very good safety. He has the talent and was a 3rd round pick, plus he got to learn some stuff from Troy P. Harrell would be a big bonus if he plays. He's been an injury prone player even in college, but I don't like his mind set and approach to getting himself ready.

He defin.was cocky and to his admission wasnt even close to ready his rookie year and got hurt and has been behind the ball since, now he hasnt played much in over a season, had his surgery(s),healed up,pass the physical * id think or he wouldnt be practicing) adn im sure he realizes how much he screwed up,almost lost his job and now he has pro's on his ass,so im sure hes getting ready like a pro.
Driver does suprise me with his contract here, but, hes been quiet and professional his whole career and his nummbers have dropped abit so something to consider, but,he has been undervalued abit,so maybe you over pay him abit to help G.J. learn more and let him make his 60 catches or so.
Collins,,,,,heres the big question!
had a good rookie season, good last season and nothing between,so do you pay him?
Smith who played this system in Pitts is ahead of him, but, takes to many chances and hopefully learned his lesson when he got cocky with t brady a few years ago.Smith has speed, talent, and could take over if Ted doesnt want to pay out and i dont know if he should.Collins had a great year, but after a few weak ones and he still has a year left,so its not like he kicked it in just for his contract year,so i guess it depends if he wants fair value,or break the bank, but,if Collins is greedy, there is a guy from Pitts behind him the Packers can use as leverage and if Collins holds out and Smith plays well,,then what....of course its all hypothetical but maybe something to think about!

Smith could become a player we have been looking for if this Collins thing blows up or Bigby can't cut it. So he got burned by Brady his rookie year; I hope he learned to check himself. This is a fresh start for him so it's his big chance to show his stuff. He is already ahead for both Collins and Bigby having played in the 3-4 and his secondary coach is now in GB. Collins won't help himself by staying out. He's suppose to be the QB on the defense.

Suddenly a lot of contract issues on top of the ones looming in off season: Bigby, Jennings, Clifton, Kampman, et al. Nothing against the individuals involved, but I think they see the cap room and the bottom line and it's understandable to look out for themselves. In Driver's case, I think he's forcing their hand a bit because his deal is back loaded with $7.2 million next year, when he will be 35 and they can cut him to get out it. In Collin's case, I think he'd like to at least get what Anthony Smith got since Smith has 10 career starts and no Pro Bowls (and according to Fox Sports Smith makes $200,000 more than Collins this season, bumping to 1.2 million next season). I don't think that's fair. In Kampman's case, he signs a four-year extension that runs out in March 2010 and now he's asked to change positions in his contract year? He's too good of a guy to complain, so he's keeping it to himself, but believe me he's not happy about it. This isn't some manufactured story--reporters talk to players off the record all the time--there's something to it.

Well it's too bad Kampman may be unhappy, but it's all about making the defense better and this is the approach GB is taking. I believe Kampman will try to adjust and he has my respect for not openly whining about it. Normallylikeyellow makes a good point about Smith making more than Collins. If I were Collins I would be a little pissed also. I make the Probowl and Smith is a backup in Pittsburgh. TT needs to work this out the sooner the better. I believe Collins has the upside to make working a deal in the Pack's best interest.

Win the Div? HAHAHAHA!!!! How about a winning season? Did you forget 6-10? you finished 3rd in the div! The Pack was closer to the bottom of the div than the top!!!! it's more like ......Bears 1st, Vikes 2nd,the pack & lions fighting for 3rd!

I agree Wal, Kampman will be a teamer all the way. We'll find out if it's for the best. Last time I looked we couldn't play zone a lick, but we'll see. I'm just saying that Kampman made his rep playing a down end with a high motor and getting sacks. Now he's going to have to take on a completely new m.o., cover from time to time, etc. You can tell him it's going to be better, but until he sees it, you can't blame him for feeling uneasy about it. He's prime age and looking at a huge payday. What if isn't as effective? Then his value drops and he's turning 30.

yep esp after you guys threw out that mighty impressive 9-7 and choked the final game with the playoffs on the line and with a healthy team on top of it.At least the Packers dropped because of losing half their defense and they should be back and if healthy, there is no reason not to win the div.

Eric; this person packerhacker is obviously not a fan of our team so I really don't give a crap what it have to say. You are right to think we will win the division, I think we will too. Of course it's all only a feeling until they play the games so who really knows???? I read where Driver and Management are working on a new deal which is good news. What do you think will happen Collins' case; having him, Bigby, Smith, and Rouse gives us four pretty good players at safety.

It weird, Jennings is #1 priority,so that will piss Collins off id think, and if they are talking to Driver for the 3rd year in a row to redo his deal,im sure Collins isnt to happy their either, but,Ted likes to sign guys before their last season.I honestly dont know.a new defense,no one knows if Collins can handle being defensive play caller, now if we sign him and he sucks or if we don't and he ends up with a defensive P.O.T.year calibur season,,i guess that's the chance that he will take,If I was to guess,id say all 3 will be signed by Camp.
Packerhacker is a Bears fan,ive known him for a few years, good guy, just likes to break stones, hes harmless and WHEN the Packers beat the Bears in week 1,we can break his stones and he will take it just fine.
What is bothereing me is Driver got this reputation of being a team player, always professional ect,yet the last 3 years in a row his contract has come up and TT has redone it,time to say hey play with it,sign Jennings to the biggie he deserves, talk to Collins and if its fair give him something with or attributed to performence to see if he fits into the system.
Kampman,im pretty sure this is his last year in GB,his numbers will suck now that he is in a worker position, roaming abit more,so the sacks wont be there and he is not talking,so im assuming hes not a happy camper, but if im worng and ,if he does have a great year, dont be suprised to see a huge deal offered and it might look to big for the numbers he put up,but, its the little things that stats wont tell you is where he matters.

Good points but you have to remember these guys are about themselves.... All they can get...

Driver, Collins are letting their agents speak....

Jon Jansen will sign with the Lions by noon your time....

The game today...is not like the game we grew up loving.... These guys would trade jerseys like the NHL.... Sorry, but team loyality went out with Free Agency.....

I don't blame the players for wanting the dough. Their contracts are structured more towards performance year in/out and don't have complete guarranteed money. So I feel Driver/Collins have earned pay increases. Jennings is a very special person. The guy is one of the top receivers in the league yet still playing with 500,000 contract. He's at OTA because he knows his payday is coming very soon. What a player/person he is. I feel TT has done right by Driver/Collins so far and I would throw them both incentives to pad their deals letting Collins know up front that if he is successful in handling the 3-4, his payday will come. Just my thoughts, I'm not a GM so I don't know the in's/out's.

Jennings is going to look around and get out of town. Where's the team? Everybody will want him. Driver's upset because he got played. They can cut him now and save $7 million or 4 million next year. You think he doesn't notice them drafting and signing all these WOs? Giants fans are already buzzing for Driver. The message you are sending to Collins is that you were good in our inferior scheme, but we are uncertain about you in this one? The guy's a Pro Bowler! He less valuable than a guy the Steelers didn't bother to dress for the Super Bowl? He'll walk too. As will Bigby. And Kampman, as eric says. And Clifton and Tauscher and ??? Hopefully hopefully is all read these days. This thing is unraveling.

NYL you are getting carried away here i think.Jennings will be given a franchise tag if need be.The kid didnt dress for Pitts because hes behind Troy P. who is a league best,it doesnt mean he wouldnt be a very good safety for us.I dont know where you came up with Bigby will walk also.hell if NY is buzzzing for Driver then send him there if need be,the Packers have jennings, Jordy Nelson who im sure will play welll this year, heck go out and sign Plaxaco Burris, hes as good or better then Driver.Driver wants a bigger deal, hes getting 6 this year which i feel is more then his value for a guy who caught 70 last year, but,if Ted feels hes that improtant, then they will raise him to 7-8 mil.

Actually that's not true. Smith was benched in 2007, and suited up for 9 games in 2008. He has a rep for cheap hits and trash talking, the former of which landed him in the doghouse and inactive for December and January, though healthy. Perry, I guess, thinks he can turn him around. I'm not getting carried away, just speculating. Bigby will be a FA and Rosenhaus is his agent. That's where I came up with that. You're the one who invented this fantasy about Anthony Smith.

my point is Smith has played in this defense so if Collins holds out or whatever Smith is the PAckers leverage.
