The problem with the Packers is at GM. Thompson must go! He has turned the Packers into a 6-10 team. Since 2 wins were against the worst team in NFL history, he really turned the Packers into a 4 win team. The Packers obviously could do better with competent management. The best thing the Packers can do in the draft is to hire someone else as GM prior to it.

I don't buy into issues with TT or MM. We were two field goals away from sweeping the NFC-North division!!! With all the holes on the defense, we came close to winning outright. No, I say fix the holes on defense and shore up special team coverage and this team will be ok. We don't need wholesale changes in management/coaching although I might replace Sanders at coordinator. Rogers should play even better next season and clearly is an upgrade over an aging Brett. Grant did rush for over 1,000 yds. even though he started slow. Jennings and Driver both surpassed 1,000 yds. receiving and Rogers held up and is already one of the better QB's in the NFC. We took a step back, but you can't win with weak defense and that is what we had most of the season. Charles and Al know the deal, we need playmakers on the defense.

So if I understand you wal0645(post #3), going from 13-3 to 6-10 (with 2 of those wins against the worst team in NFL history) means that nothing is wrong that can't be fixed with a little optimism. What scares me the most is that Mark Murphy and the Packer Board may actually agree with you.

You said: "We were two field goals away from sweeping the NFC-North division!!!" May I remind you that last year we made the playoffs, the NFC championship, and lost to the Superbowl champs in overtime.

Did Ted miss the game losing tackle or something? Does Ted cover, pass rush, and stop the run with their 3 best defensive players injured? Lose to the best team in Football in OT and lose to 6 playoff calibur teams by 4 pts or less.

Not improving on last years success is a mere disappointment. What happened this year is a disaster. According to the morons out there Thompson's team is just great!

"Lose" is the operatine term. Thompson assembled the players that made those mistakes, that suffered those injuries, and the players that filled in for them. He also sugned their coaches. If you are okay with this form of success that is one thing, but to openly defend it is absolute idiocy.

Yes! Stop living in the past. The present is a team that only won 6 games (2 against the worst team in history)and the future will depend on whether the Packers are committed to winning or not. Not suprisingly, the teams that won this year are the teams that made efforts to improve in the off season. The Packers were not one of them. The results were predictable and will be just as predictable next year if the Packers fail to replace the person responsible --- Ted Thompson.

GBPfan; it doesn't take a genius to see what happened this year; the stats bear it out that our defense cost us a bunch of wins. Statistically, we rank toward the bottom in many defensive categories and if you watched the games we lost, especially those close ones, it fell on the defense for the most part. Grant rushed for 1200 yds and we had two 1000 yd receivers; we scored a bunch of points, but the defense was a sieve. So what is firing management going to prove? Shore up the defense and maybe replace Sanders and the team will fair better in 2009.

GBPfan is just set on the fact that he "knows" TT won't get any off-season help from FA or anything, like last year, therefore he should be fired. I mean GBPfan has more credibility than TT right? It's not like TT built a super bowl team with the seahawks and braught GB to a 13-3 record.

Ted Thompson assembled the players that made up that defense. He also signed the coaches that coached that defense. Morons like you now want Thompson to be the one to shore up the defense and sign the new coaches. He has done more than enough damage already you idiot.

Getting a little defensive there calling us morons. I guess we just don't get it. Or maybe we understand football and the Packers a little more.

Well, I must admit that you seem to understand football and the Packers as well as Ted Thompson!

GBPfan, Other than Justin Harrel, what other shitty draft pick does TT have on his shoulders? If anything, McCarthy should go due to his pathetically conservative play calling. And people think grant is some great running back??? the guy played eight games last season and played well, but in our biggest game of the year, NYG nfc championship game, he had 10 rushes for 28 yards and comes back in the offseason asking for more cash. Favre may have won more games but he split the locker room more than barry bonds ever did. I back TT on about 85% of his moves. It's up to McCarthy to get jackson more carries and get rid of coaches like bob sanders. while TT can carry some of the blame to this season, people sure are quick to forget about the 13-3 season he lead us to the year before.

You people that think that a GM's only job is making draft picks don't have a clue. But even assuming this were true, Thompson has been in Green Bay long enough that a 6-10 record makes it clear that he is a huge failure! Thompson is also responsible for all of the personnel(player and coach) problems you list above. They were all brought in by him. And you have only mentioned a fraction of his mistakes.

Was this not what another player did? Asked or tried to tell management they needed to sign some players. But did he not get bashed that it was not up to him he has no say in that and that it was wrong to ask for such a thing. Now why is no body on woodson for this? Both were/are asking for the same reason to help the team win.

Okay, I can't stand it any longer... There's nothing wrong with our defensive scheme that some line play wouldn't solve. We don't have the depth on Dline. It's the same scheme that worked when we were 8-8 and not scoring and 13-3 and nearly nfc champs. Have you watched us (try to) play zone? Can't stop the run and can't rush the passer. Our O-line is equally inconsistent. Would like to see an impact rookie on either side, wouldn't you? Would also like to see some people sellout to win, the way Harris, Woodson and Driver do. I see false starts and poor tackling. There's a lot of blame to go around. An interesting comparison is the 2000 Kansas City Chiefs. Elvis Grbac passed for 4,100+ yds and looked like Joe Montana but they went 2-14. Same issues. Grbac took some hits and went downhill fast after a year or two. I hope we don't squander Aaron's best years.
