Oakland Raiders going in a new direction with their running game

There are 6 comments on the Contra Costa Times story from Feb 14, 2013, titled Oakland Raiders going in a new direction with their running game. In it, Contra Costa Times reports that:

Offensive coordinator Greg Olson made it clear Wednesday during a meet-and-greet with local media that his plans for running back Darren McFadden will include the kind of gap and power blocking schemes that made him one of the NFL's most explosive running backs in 2010 and 2011.

This will hopefully be make or break for McFadden. I think Olsen made good points by saying "You can't just implement a system and say <this is what we do> because you might not have the right personnel for the scheme."

Bottom line is "If it ain't broke don't try to fix it because it's obviously working fine"

well dmac breaks down almost every season! "i" certainly would have traded him out but never the less, he's here. i believe these coaches "might" do right for him. now it's just a matter of him staying healthy!

If we can get 1000 yard, 7 td's and 14 games out of Darren i will be very pleased.

Reece is a very underrated run blocker in my opinion as well. Sure, pure fullbacks like Vontae Leach are better run blockers. Half the time, Darren only needs an angle, a cut back, or a small hole to pop through and make a 2 yard run into 6 or 7.

All Reece needs to do is get in the way most of the time, and he usually does more than that, on top of his awesome agility, speed and hands.

The guy was a 5 foot 11 inch 230 pound JUCO wide receiver in college.

apart from his ability to be a great runner and his constant injury, DARREN MCFADDEN CANNOT TAKE A HIT! sports casters are always trying to make him as a "powerfull legs runner that can break tackles"! no he can't!, not in my eyes at least?. yes, he can run fast and is a powerfull runner "when" he has a great gap.if he can beat that gap? he's gone! and thats where he looks like the "great mcfadden". but how often did we have that gap last season? so that just shows that he cannot break a tackle! so this season if we do decide to still keep him, greg olson and tony sparano better have a decently great o-line to part the sea for mcfadden to shine. then, i'll be okay with mcfadden getting star credit cause without that? we will be stuck with paying dmac for his injuries "again" instead of him playing a full season. sure, "one more" season "again" for the benefit of the doubt. give it your all mcfadden!

OMG, not another new direction for the Raiders! No wonder they can't win football games, too many new directions and they're confused :)
