innocent until proven guilty is the standard of the courts and justice system, not necessarily the standard for citizens. It always amazes me when in a case like this someone tosses out that cliche. If we as peopled lived by that standard voting would useless, if someone posts on a forum that they think he is guilty that is called freedom of speech. It's the right of the person posting, it's also at their own peril. If someone is accused of wrongdoing and they are running in an election, peoples opinions matter and should not be silenced. You have just as much right to disagree, but should you choose to do so you should at least know what you are talking about.

Most people use that cliche because it sounds so righteous and civil minded, but the fact is most of the time it's used way out of context. You might just as well respond "I like bananas because they have no bones" because it makes more sense than that cliche.

BTW did ever notice that it's innocent until proven guilty, but there is no such thing as proven innocent...only a defendant being found not guilty, and yes there is a big difference.

I can only imagine what you went through and it must be difficult to trust now. What is important is you were found not quilty and you no the truth, along with your family. You don't owe anyone an explanation. It must be hard to move on when the damage is done, but I believe good things happen when you have to fight the worst. So what ever happened to you, I am sorry. I hope you can put this in the past and remember no one is perfect even if they seem to be. Again, you were found innocent and there are many of us who can understand and don't pass judgment. These are the people you need to surround yourself with, it will help you see the good and move forward. Good Luck..

They say that high voter turnout at the polls is an indicator of change...that low voter turnout is good for incumbants and high voter turnout is good for challengers. I find it interesting that this was a very average year - 26% of Lowell's registered voters showed up at the polls yesterday, which is slightly less than our city's average...yet, Mercier, Faticanti and Kazanjian were ousted from their posts...I'm especially shocked that Faticanti lost so big with only one challenger - shocked but oh-so-happy. What does this tell us about our city? It tells us that these three didn't lose to newly-registered voters turning out to make change...No...They lost to those who at one time had faith in them. People who supported them maybe as recently as last spring are disgusted and disappointed in recent happenings.
Well stated! Proud to be a [voting] Lowellian today!

Hello Rad, we have not commuicated in awhile and if I remember correctly you were innocent in you accident. Why would you let anyone make you feel guilty if you were not? It's a difficult feeling inside being accused of something that you did not do, but we need to stand up for ourselves and not accept something that is not factual.

Many years ago, in Scotland, jurors were given three choices for a verdict: Guilty; Innocent and Not Proven. Innocent verdicts meant the accused did not commit the crime, or the allegation against the defendant did not amount to a crime. A killing found to be in self defense would be an "Innocent" verdict, for example. Not Proven was the verdict when there was evidence that the defendant committed the crime, but the evidence was not sufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Not so many years ago, a District Court Judge serving his last day on the bench before retirement heard a criminal trial. At the end of the trial he announced his verdict. He told the defendant he was receiving a "Scotch Verdict": "Not Guilty, but don't do it again."

I don't know if the guy is guilty or innocent. What I do know is the city does not need the controversy and it was time to move on with all fresh new faces.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Aquarius

You're in a tricky position because someone who is supposed to know what they're talking about seems to be spouting complete nonsense instead. If this is an older friend or relative then you can simply smile politely and wait for them to rejoin the rest of us on Planet Earth. But if it's a boss or bureaucrat who's talking rubbish or giving you some puzzling orders, you'll be in a quandary about what to do.
