Dr. Mehmet Oz is a vegetarian who encourages his legions of fans to consume whole-grain wheat and lots of fruits and vegetables, but neurologist David Perlmutter says a high-carb, grain-heavy diet is unhealthy because it destroys the brain and leads to Alzheimer's disease and other brain illnesses.

Caring for someone with Alzheimer's is painful enough without the steady barrage of phony PR releases from self-serving institutions and greedy doctors. Both Dr. Oz and Dr. Pearlmutter should be hung by their toes. It is disgraceful that these bastards put out this garbage with diametrically opposing views that neither one can prove just to make more money. Enough is enough! Shame on both of you! And shame on this blogging for helping them do their dirty work.

I agree with this doctor.I have had my mom on a low carb low sugar low salt low bad fat high good fat diet for a wlong time now.I give her two tablespoons brazilian nut powder, two tablespoons extra virgin olive oil everyday in her axona shake which is basically a more digestable form of coconut oil along with a healthy diet and she is still alert, walks with assistance is toileting again without meds to do it and can chew and swallow her food even though sge is in very advance stages of this horrible disease.I studied everything I needed to do for her regarding her diet and worked with a nutritionist to streamline her meals.I also kept her walking and as active as i could as soon as i got her diagnosis which for us was very late. She was already in moderate stages by the time we were finaly able to get a verdict from any of her doctors or specialists.I would strongly advise following this doctors advice while still seeking a better medicine and or therapy,as I am doing.Goodluck to all of my fellow caregivers. Thanks Carla Danesi Glorias Daughter "Remember Gloria,Gloria Lives"
