Phenylalanine in protein powders???

Protein powders often list the amino acids they contain, including phenylalanine. I've often been reluctant to take any product that lists it, even though I know it's a naturally occurring amino acid, present in lots of food I enjoy eating (e.g. dairy).
So here's my question: is the phenylalanine in protein powders likely to cause problems? I've been having chronic headache that fit the unique Nutrasweet pattern:
back of the head, wake with it in the morning, never quite goes away.
My current protein powder (Garden of Life Raw Protein) lists 788 mg phenylalanine; others in the store list 516 and 1160 mg.
I remember there was a flavoring packet years ago that included it, and I had to stop using it due to headache. Because phenylalanine causes such *distinct* back-of-the-head headaches, I'm wondering. Hmm, even as I write this, I'm coming to the conclusion that a trial without the protein powder is a good test. What have y'all found? Anybody would kindly weigh in on whether the differential amounts of phenylalanine in created/processed foods can have the same effects as aspartame?
