Community Agroecology Network (CAN) works with a cooperative of 52 coffee farmers in Costa Rica who have adopted 4 sustainability indicators that will guide their membership and community development: min. 100 tree density, min. 8 tree species, livelihood diversification (intercropping and shade tree on coffee farm) and elimination of agrochemicals.
The community grows, harvests, processes, roasts, packages, and ships the coffee directly to your doorstep. It arrives in your mail, with a Costa Rican stamp and is about as Direct a purchase as you can get from the producers. Also, of the $12.95, they receive $11, which amounts to $5.05 after they pay for shipping and productions costs, almost 4 times the price of FairTrade Certified.
Please order and support these sustainable farmers today at: http://store.communityagroecology.net

oops, the 8 species and 100 trees is within a 1,000 meter plot (50 x 20 meters). This is to get an overall picture of the density for each farmer's land and to promote biodiverse, shade tree, bird friendly landscapes!
