Crime in Racepath is on the rise
"Fireworks wars" are common in Racepath. Groups of young men from the neighborhood shoot fireworks into the cars of groups of young men from nearby areas, and vice versa, said Rev.

It seems as if Rev.Gause is trying to do a noble thing by improving the conditions in the neighborhood, but the reality is the parents should be responsible and in control of their children. If you wonder why there is a disparity in the number of black men in the prison system look no further than neighorhoods like this.

I feel for the older people and the small children. When thugs do not even care about their own family, you know it is bad.

Unfortunately, the "fear of getting caught" is only a bandaid-- temporary at best. To change a man, you must change his heart. There is only One who can change a man's heart. Two-thousnad years ago He said "all of the law and the prophets are summed up in these two things- Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself." He is the only cure.

Another good read from Myrtle Beach's best opinion writer.

AMEN to that when they quit prayer in schools and quit teaching the 10 commandants that is when the social decay in society we see today started SHOVELHEAD GCB SC |

In an ideal world, your theory would work. However, this is not an ideal world. Parents don't control 24 year-old offspring. In reality, the 24 year-olds in THIS neighborhood ARE THE PARENTS. THEIR kids are learning how to sell drugs and play fireworks games for fun and profit by watching how their parents do it. In today's world, parents must work to make ends meet (and are not at home to control kids). This is why Rev Gause wants to use the academic and recreational day camp approach. His approach must be privately funded by people in the community who want to take control of their neighborhood. Unfortunately that doesn't work, because the leaders in the community ARE the 24 year-old thugsters who ALREADY HAVE TAKEN CONTROL of the neighborhood. Outside help is the only answer. Otherwise, water seeks its own level, and in this case, will eventually flood all of Myrtle Beach with crime. |

And yet some wonder why there's so much discrimination in the world! When communities conduct themselves like other decent communitites, THEN and ONLY then will there harmony. Until then it will only get worse if things don't change...AND SOON!

This area is geographically quite small---it would seem that an intensive 3 month focus on the area by law enforcement would identify the worst elements and bring them to heel....
|
|
Alrighty then, since "HE" solved the problem in the world of 2000 years ago, WHO is going step forward and use the same tactics to solve the problem in today's world (specifically Myrtle Beach)? Rev Gause is giving it a try. Can he do it alone? |

How many of you would allow such behavior in your neighborhood white or black? I would call the police because I don't want my family or anyone else's for that matter to be injured. RESPECT WHERE YOU LIVE!
|

It takes more than that. Sgt. Chatfield and his boys spend more time than anyone in racepath. But they can't be here all the time. This is not a "racepath" problem. There guns and drugs in all communities. when there a shooting in a place like berkshire at carolina forest everyone think it has to be someone outside but even that one was from inside. I'm just saying guns, drugs, violence is a problem everyone. And it's "OUR" problem not "racepath" problem. This time we talking about racepath but we got to talk about the nation problem. |

Government support is piddling compared to the thousands of dollars a DAY a single drug dealer can make just standing around on a street corner. These people don't need or use government support. It would be a waste of their time going through the red tape and inconvenience of qualifying and filling out the paperwork just to receive a couple of hundred dollars and a handful of food stamps. Get real. |
|
It is a small area. However, there are other small areas that are getting as bad as racepath. If Racepath is cleaned up and crime is lowered, maybe the other areas would get the message. Who knows...I believe the wonderful people who are living there and want protection should be able to get it. Did I read on another forum that the city police do not come there and it is left to the county police? |
|
Yes, that is true about the city police. |
|
In essence, this is the only effective solution for the Racepath neighborhood. Unfortunately, the dealers will simply move to the surrounding neighborhoods. Its like a cancer. It is going to require a MAJOR offensive to overwhelm the drug trade in Myrtle Beach. Local efforts to band-aid the problem are a waste of time and money. |

Prefab Sprout, the HCPD has had law enforcement officers’ assigned specifically to that area for more than ten years? Check out some of the Sun News archives, they have been following that area for years. However, as soon as the police leave, the area reverts back to the standard state of dysfunction! |
|
That may be one problem right there. How do they get away with that? Racepath is in the city limits...right? That is a great message to give to a group of thugs. No wonder crime is out of control. I guess they feel the police are afraid of them. NICE!!! |
|
Thank God for the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit; those cops are finally making an impact on the drugs in this area. I just wish there were more of them! |

AMEN! |

Something I notice about drugs, you rarely see middle class people take drugs it's either the poor or the rich that uses drugs.
