i get it, i should have put in there that we get asked how we get food stamps when we drive the caddy, it looks good but runs like sh!t. i get your point, i wasnt clear in my statement.
i agree on what youre saying, but like you said in the cash for clunkers thread, we dont always know the situation. MOST of those people, mostly illeagals get brand new cars and food stamps and the whole 9 yards which is wrong
its also wrong for people to get them when they have the means to buy all that jewelry and vehicles with cash and still use them when they could use that money to do for themselves with out the states help.
again, i apologize for niot making myself clear
I think we understand ya, Juju dear. LOL I still think its cause of yer car that you got the stamps. ROFLMAOOO!!!

Again there's nothing wrong w/getting assistance when needed. However, before anyone should put themselves as a burden to everyone else, they need to exhaust all their OWN resources first. It the RIGHT THING TO DO.
If you have a high priced vehicle that you can downsize and then make ends meet, thats what you do first. If you have years of accumulated jewelry, expensive clothing/accessories, etc. and you can sell them to get you through until back on your feet, then thats the FIRST thing you do. Thats my point.
Just FYI, both of our cars are older and paid for & the only jewelry we have are our wedding bands. Should we pawn those as well? We did have a savings account to buy our own land but we used that up within no time. These two children came to us with the clothes on their backs and nothing else, no car seats, no beds, no clothes. We don't have expensive clothes or accesories. To be honest, most of our clothing comes from thrift stores already. My point was you do not know what the other person has went through or is going through. That fancy car might just be paid off & that jewelry might just be fake. Do I like the fact that we have to have this help? NO! The simple fact is my husband doesn't have work & with 2 more children in the home, money only goes so far. The people that are abusing it should be punished but the ones that have worked their entire lives & just need help don't need to be judged.
Just be thankful that you haven't had to get help & have others judge you without knowing the facts. Since that woman in front of you might just be a person like me & regardless of the fact I'm using a food stamp card doesn't make me less of a human, just makes me one that needs a little help.

First off I said, there's nothing wrong with getting assistance when you need it. While you're sitting there jumping down my throat, YOU aren't even the topic of our discussion since the things we are discussing don't apply to your situation. Take a minute to READ my posts and make sure your response fits the comment.

Point blank , YES YES YES everyone should attemp to give up the UNESSENTIALS BEFORE getting on assistance. I'm NOT talking about a family heirloom, or wedding bands, or the second hand clothes on one's back. But if I'm able to buy numerous UGG boots at nearly $200 bux a pop to match all my winter attire, fur coats, REAL jewelry to match my mood/clothes,$200+ tennis shoes to match every $100+ team jersey I own, then YES a person should have to DOWNSIZE before getting on assistance. DUH!

If someone has real estate, jewelry, cars, etc. they need to make mention of this at the time they apply then see what happens.

Personally, if I have assets which can be sold, rented, etc. before becoming a burden on other taxpayers, you better believe that's what I'm going to do. Its only fair that I make absolutely EVERY attempt to provide for myself before latching onto the backs of others, but that's just me and the way I was raised.

Here's a good rule of thumb, if there were no foodstamp program and you'd do away with the item to cover groceries, then get that's what you do first. These programs aren't a means to maintain luxuries, no matter how they were acquired. Its a means to providing the necessities until you are once again able to do so for yourself.

You missed Kate's point entirely. Take off your blinders for just a moment, okay? You can usually tell when someone has a NEW car they're still making payments on and big payments at that. She's not talking about your wedding bands either. She was talking about big rock diamonds and diamond studs in their ears not to mention gold bling and grilles in their mouths. Oh yes, she's not talking about thrift store clothes and shoes. She's talking about the obvious brand new expensive clothes, jewelry and shoes.
She didn't say you were less of a human just because you have to use food stamps......YOU said that yourself. Don't put words in her mouth. She's very capable of saying what she means and what is right. And for your information, Kate has had to get help. She's not always had it easy.....but she got help only when she needed it. She didn't abuse the system like so many do nowadays.
Thank you hun!(smooches)

helll, cant give the POS away to get any extra money
and its real funny how we can get 200 a month food stamps when thats not what we went for, we went to get tenncare, which was in fact denied but said we were eligible for food stamps...how crazy is that?

Maybe I can help. drive it on over to "Steiner Liff", Ill meet you at the gate, on the second shift, oh yeah, bring that food stamp card with you. We specialize in POS demolition.

I saw a lady that got a bunch of groceries argue with the cashier because she had to pay 16 cents because she used her food stamp card and some coupons. They charge her tax on the coupons. You got all of your food for free pay the damn 16 cents and shut up...
I think 90% of Nashville ise on food stamps. This program should have a time limit. Are at least come with mandatory birth control.

I also would like to suggest that food stamps be used for staples only and generic foods,Fresh produce and no junk food...Have you ever noticed we have the fattest, hungry people in the world?? Also could we ban the nasty LOUD rap music that our children can hear..please

Also make it so you cant buy cooking oil with food stamps, fry all of yuor food and gain 25 lbs every meal. Seriously most women I see use that EBT card are fat as hell, no wonder you cant work. How about make it mandatory to gather carts at the store for a hour before your food stamp purchase. Make so the people that need them can eat but they dont want to stay on them forever. Geez.. Honor is fading for people in this country...

i believe anyone getting food stamps should be drug tested not pee tested hair tested this will weed out all the dopers that are sitting on their butts, keep having babies a family of 4 in ar with no income gets close t 700.00 a month in stamps, i could feed a family of 4 steak at least twice a week on 700.00, yet some of these kids don't have food at the end of the month cause mommy or daddy have either sold or partied and spent all the stamps on their friends. what happened to the government was suppose to quit paying for women having babies the cut off was suppose to have been after 2 u were on your own

I think all this attacking of other people is kind of stupid. I don't like the idea of people using our system either to live on but in a way, is it the people who live on it or the politicians in the white house that make it so easy to do that we should blame? Our country taxes the working man to death and gives away the money to those who don't work. My husband has always worked to support us but you better believe when he loses his job and I see that there is a true need, i won't apoligizing for using it. Almost four hundred dollars was taken out of my husbands check every two weeks! Money we will never see again and i seriously doubt social security will ever be around to help us when we are old. I know people too who abuse the system and it angers and sickens me too but what really sickens me lately is all the phoney politians on BOTH sides of the parties doing nothing to change anything. They say what they have to so they can get elected again and nothing changes. So when my husband loses his job and we need money I won't apoligize for useing it a few weeks. They take every spare dime from us all the other pay checks so i don't mind taking some back when the need is there. And as long as such a stupid system is in place, punishing people with a marriage tax for being married and encouraging generations of people to live there, to their own demise then I don't mind at all shoving it back at the system that so often makes it hard for me and my husband just to pay our bills!

Your comment is right on point. I would hope that you, nor anyone else feels guilty about getting help that you are lawfully eligible for. Thats what its there for.

As for who's to blame, I think its easiest to start at those who are committing the fraud. Every time they apply, they sign a statement that the information supplied is accurate and they understand the penalties for false information. If they have assets, resources, people who are providing financial help and are not reporting it, then they should lose OUR help.

Unfortunately, for it to really hurt, its got to affect their children too. Once someone is found to have committed fraud, they and all those listed on the application are no longer eligible for a year or more.(Open to negotiations on the time limit.) But its for ALL on the application. Children can't be "claimed" by other family members either, but instead the children are eligible for some other food gift program, maybe through churches, Second Harvest, etc. Where ONLY FOOD is provided and in quantities suitable for the children.

The children still get fed, only its not so pleasant for the head of household that has to explain why its PBJ sandwiches, milk, and fruit again. I hate that the kids are affected, but the head of household already proved they cared nothing for their own kids' long-term well-being and therefore can't be trusted to make good shopping decisions.

it is very hard to NOT get your unemployment if you were "laid" off. I run a roofing co. of 30 years. I know we have men who just don't show up for work, leave early, come in half hung over and they still can draw. It is very hard to not get unemployment. dib, something doesn't sound right about what you said. WHY did you "lose" your job?

We have had very few men that hasn't gotten their unemployment. My husband and I have worked our butts off over all the years. I drive a truck and my husband runs the company. I do the book keeping. It takes all we can do to stay a little ahead. We have jobs but it is so hard to keep good workers. We treat our men very well.

I don't mind when work gets slow for ythe men to draw, but because they just wont show up, then I think that is WRONG. We have to pay for them to draw that unemployment. Fair is fair.

Some folks are considered contract, grant-funded, or even temporary employees (not from temp agency) and are not eligible for lay-off consideration, they're jobs simply end.

I've also been in a situation where I was considered a no call/no show when the boss TOLD me I was fired. I fought it, but couldn't afford an attorney and was denied unemployment. Even though I sent an email to the VP of HR regarding the situation. Nobody made any contact w/me, nor accepted my phone calls for those two days until I could be legally terminated as no call/no show.
