I have invented a new technique to get myself off to sleep when my mind is over active.
Get comfortable, warm enough, posture good?
Settle down, then when thoughts start to emerge just imperceptively flex 2 of your fingers, I use my index fingers, do this twice or three times. Sometimes that's all I need to get off but sometimes the thoughts are more intrusive than others. When the thoughts reappear just do the finger flex again making the movement so small that an onlooker would not be able to see the movement.
Hope it works for you as it does for me at 4am.
