Its just one more card they can sell for 50% of the value to buy other things and again the kids will do without. These programs are a scam waiting to happen, just like food stamps, welfare, and general assistance.
If we as a country are that concerned about our children having nutritional meals then lets keep the schools open over the summer, let the kids come to school, play in the gyms, maybe learn something and get the meal at school.

It is NOT the taxpayers place to feed people's kids! If they can't feed them (unless they recently lost a job) the kids should be taken and put into decent people's homes.

Nice to see Vanessa has to depend on taxpayers to make sure her kids are eating right! She HAS to be a liberal democrat! They should pull spot inspections of these people's homes and if any tobacco or booze products are found make them pay back every dime they have received!

Let's see: how many packs of smokes or cans of beer will the $60 a month that is freed up buy??

I happen to know a family that is going to get this card and believe me I know they are not hurting financially. Second of all, where do this money suddenly appear? Teachers are being put in the back burner and yet we are telling families how to feed their children? The mom that came out in the article said this will help their children w/cereal for breakfast. Since when is cereal a necessity and nutritional? I agree with the post above, what is going to stop them from selling this card. It doesn't make sense...

I just read the article, again. And I can't get over what a irresponsible program this is!

I do agree lots of welfare do sell their assistance. I never did. I work 40 hours have 3 kids and do all I can to provide complete meals for my kids. I am my on any assistance but my kids were picked for this program this summer. Every part of their cards will go to them. Overall it doesn't provide much but helps fill the blanks and allows me to buy other stuff for them.
