I smell something fishy. To open a store, just serve WIC and welfare customers stinks to high heaven.

I think its a great idea for the WIC customers. It can be a really long wait when these coupons are presented in the grocery store.

We do not have any jobs so might as well cater to WIC and welfare. What a dream town.

My take on the article was they would sell to anybody that walked in who needed milk, peanut butter, etc.

I am not clear if it is only the wic items or could they also sell, say, toilet paper and diapers? One stop shopping is the key to success here.

I'm a single guy, no kids, make decent money. I know people on WIC and it is a HUGE help for these families of hardworking parents who struggle to survive in Mendo's jobless environment. The group WIC caters too is not the jobless lazy welfare stereotype, and the program really zeros in on this very deserving strata of hardworking decent people.
I feel very good knowing my taxes are supporting this.
To the store owners: What a wonderful, fresh idea! This is very considerate for those good people who may feel some shame about it; saves other peoples time waiting in checkout; and simplifies the whole shopping process for this bureaucratic jumble. Bravo to you two, and WIC is not whack!

It's about time someone made a store for the WIC recipients.

I lived in the southern states when my daughter was born and I was on WIC. They did not give you coupons or vouchers like they do here in California. The doc would print you a "subscription" and you would take it to the WIC warehouse which was for WIC recipients only. It wasn't a "store", it was literally a warehouse. They had choices of the cereals and juices on display and when you went up to the counter you would hand the clerk your paper and they would load all the stuff up in your car and send you on your way.

There were no embarrassing lines and nasty looks from other customers as you searched for your WIC coupons and waited for the clerk to ring everything up seperately like they do here in California. I got off WIC (even though I still needed it at the time) after being on it a month after living out here because of the attitude I got from other people and the employees at the supermarkets.

WIC is also great for parents whose children are born premature or sick. My friends make decent salaries and had planned for their daughter. When she was born a preemie and her mother was having a hard time nursing. They put her on a special formula. It was around 600 a month. Who could afford that much extra a month? Thats an extra 7200 a year.

WIC is a great program.

Here is a novel idea for the WIC mothers. Pay your own way in life and don't penalize the taxpayers just because you couldn't keep your pants on and legs together.

Here's a novel idea for GT. Stay off the highways, don't send your kids to school, and never call 911- this way you can stay true to the hypocritical illusion that you have paid for these entire systems yourself.
Dude, you would never have been born given the genetics your feeble parroting exposes(no thought required!).
Never mind that such programs save immense costs on the social and health fronts long-term.
How do you contribute to our great country? Enjoy all the benefits, than betray all and talk [email protected] about the hand that fed you. SORRY MORON YOU.
Pull your pants up, ass crack showing again...

My sister had 2 small children and no income when she walked out of a controlling, abusive marriage. She used WIC/welfare while she went back to school and learned a trade and could support herself and her kids(isn't this what it was designed for?). The food was shopped for in a building behind the welfare department. The containers were white labeled, not name brand, but the food was nutritious. To me the WIC store goes back to the basics... KUDOS to you for simplifying the process for some needy children in a bad situation. I would much rather see this than the abuses of food stamps in the regular stores.

Don't count on it the illegals are what is wrong with our economy, we could balance the budget by dropping services to all illegal immigrants and their spawn!

Hospitals too! If you go to the ER, get service and tell the person at the counter that you are an Illegal Alien, they will send you on your way and mail the bill to you and me via the government...now doesn't that frost your arse?

The WIC program is a good program, less room for abuse than food stamps. The WIC items are generally healthier and neccesary staples. The problem is that it is overrun by illegal aliens who take take take, claim 13 dependents on their payroll so they do not pay fed or state income taxes because they do not file and when it catches up to them they get a new ss card and start over at a new jib with a new name and more benefits!

Kudos to your sister, she used the program for what it was meant to be, it is good program when used as such the problem is the widespread abuse. If all the WIC recipients were like your sister I doubt there would be any opposition!

No proof of citizenship is required when one applies for WIC. Many recipients don't speak any English and are not citizens. Regardless if the mother's are citizens, many had their babies here in order to get government benefits. And according to US law, their offspring are US citizes.

Illegals getting free food!!! Damn them, I'd rather they walked around with swollen bellies and red hair from malnutrition as they mow my lawn.
They are people with families who love them that want the same damn thing you do. Look down on them and deprive them and you are doing the same to yourself.
Suckers let themselves be brainwashed by political games, and believe "illegals" are sub-humans who don't deserve basic human rights. This is the same leap of logic that made slaves tolerable to so many.
People just like them were your recent ancestors, they struggled and left their homes to make your life better....so now treat them as scum fighting for your crumbs. Wake da' fudge up!
