I'm afraid we will see more local businesses close, as the recession continues. I noticed, just the other day, that the children's clothing store 'Sprout',on Elliot St., is closing.

Tried this restaurant on and off over the years, NEVER left happy. Great spot, someone should pick it up.

went to this place once. All I have to say is I am not so sure I would be blaming the recession.

Still sad, hopefully some one else will pick it up

The problem with the Riverview was that their service was terrible. Not just terrible, totally inept. Tristen never knew how to run the front of the house and he over-estimated his cooking ability. Local is only as good as the finished product. It's not a substitute for good cooking and decent service. The Riverview lacked both. I'm just surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Sorry to see this landmark succumb to the economy. I wonder what role the traffic bottleneck there played. I always avoid that intersection as much as possible. But it was great having a locally-owned, moderately priced restaurant that was fed by local farmers.

I wonder how much the property is worth...you got to know the morgage is going to choke the next business.

I see nobody has talk about all the permit parking across the street...when a few month ago it was metered parking. The restaurant parking lot is small. I did see a lot of people walking across the street to get to the restaurant. Did the permit parking make parking unappetizing?

So Walmart super center is starting up in spring. You would think a lot of traffic would pass by the restaurant. There is one restaurant being built in Hinsdale WalMart...there is a worry that a string of restaurants will end up being built in Hinsdale like the Keene commercial development?

This closing is unfortunate for the owners and they share the blame but this is just another sign of Brattleboro's and Vermont's dying economy. After all the years of anti-business and anti-development the reality of those policies continues to come home to roost.
Now that Shumlin and the Leftist dopes are completely in charge it will get worse and worse. I would take your money, if you have any, and get out now.

The resturant had terrible food and service thats why its closing. A guy a worked with who moved here from NY got a burger there. Almost throw up, thought maybe it was him. His girlfriend took at big and spit it out. I think he got it for free. Too many stories like that kills a business. Bye bye your done. I wish the old owners still had it. Never had a bad meal, salad bar, all you could eat buffet.

I had forgotten about all the renovation that took place over the last few years until I saw the photo in the paper. It is an attractive piece of real-estate, but the disposable income in this town is there to support dinning out. The 99 is about the right price point for the area & I fear that The Steak Out is next to go out.

Dude, you clearly got fired from there or something. You are making that up! I've eaten there many dozens of times and it was always good food.

Whatever vendetta you have here, you sound like a melodramatic teenager with that spew!

MANY more businesses are closing, and will continue to close all over America. This is a depression we are in.

This is the worst news to hit Brattleboro... and many of us well beyond the town... maybe ever. The Riv was THE place to go for a sandwich, a dinner, or just a drink and a schmooze. There isn't anything like it for a long way around... if anywhere.
Now what?

I always had good food there although hadn't eaten there in over a year. My husband and I go out very seldom because it is too expensive. I did appreciate the fact that they did buy Vermont products for the resturant.

Does Mr Mulligan have anything positive to ever say about anything.

So there is the posibility of other business being built in Hinsdale. You would think the taxpayers of Hinsdale would welcome new business.

It is sad that another business in Brattlebor is closing. The Riverview Resturant is a long standing resturant in Brattleboro, guess you could say it is a landmark. Yes it use to sit up the street on the ledge, but it is still the Riverview Resturant.

Property taxes are high everywhere, jobs are hard to come by, just another sad result of the economy being so bad.

Being cruel in statments about the resturant doesn't change anything. They have closed and that is sad to see happen.

Wow Bob, what a put down. you really nailed me there. Does anybody know what he's talking about. I suppose the ISP you use somehow has some bearing on the Vermont economy.
