All governments have gotten into the business of using abatements as a method for attracting businesses to locate in their areas. Businesses should select locations based on business needs and not based on who offers the best welfare incentive. Businesses need to contribute their fair share for operating costs and become good citizens. Just like any business, when all you offer is price, you have nothing that cannot depulicated. When that happens, businesses will continue shopping for the best deal. When that happens, real net productivity is lost. Each time we hear about a business relocating, there seems to always be somy type of abatement and that is nuts.
