Freshens has developed a powdered Yogurt mix as well as a product that tastes as good as or better than Yocream. Check out www.freshens.com or contact cjockwig@freshens.com
You just are not going to have a good tasting product if it is powder based. I have tried every product out there from virtually eveery major chain, and a ton of independents, and I can tell in a second if it is powder based. No matter what you do, there is always going to be a grittiness.

In a similar vein, it blows my mind that people would consider spending a ton of cash opening a store and choose a crappy foreign or off brand machines

Jan - How has your experience with the 8 product so far what kind of response are you getting? I talked with them other day and they seem to have interesting stuff but their pricing looks higher given that you have to add flavorings and shipping on top of the base price. How much were you quoted?
Jan- Can you share some insights on Only 8..it's actually not 8 calories per oz as it defines by the volume not the actual weight of the product..How's your experience with them?

Hi Jan,
One of my friends opens a yogurt store in Portland and they are using Yo Cream product, I think they r pretty good. I am considering opening a store in china, but the distributor asking for $15 buck for a box, which is ridiculous expensive. I am considering buying yogurt mix instead of liquid; I see Cielo is a reasonable choice for me, because they using real yogurt instead of just water, which make sense to me that they saying they consist active live cultures in the final product. Have you ever tried them out? If so, how do these powders compare with the liquid, I am thinking more about the taste aspect. Also, did you notice (for both liquid and posder)any additives such as preservatives were added in?

Charlets,
I have tried YoCream and the taste is good if you like tha milky flavor. They are very expensive on cost per ounce, which was something I learned later on in my business that they are high in and that is why I was not receiving that much profit. I switched to Powder mix because I heard it would cut down on my electric bill, cost, and planning with thawing out ahead of time. I now use CIELO which I LOVE! They are located in California and have one of the best prices. I now pay only 5.3 cents an oz. compared to 7.4 cents I was paying with YoCream. Plus my customers like it better and it is easy to make. Water and a bag of Cielo mix makes 175 oz. and YoCream only make 128 oz. I did now like how YoCream was so milky and too sweet! They didnt taste like frozen yogurt! I suggest using a powder and Cielo is the best one tha I have heard from many shops!

We have a machine at each of our shops devoted to the Only 8 product. It is going over very well. Customers really like it and do read the information available about the calories etc. There is only two basic flavors, Choc and vanilla. you add the additional flavorings to get the different flavors. The toasted coconut and butter pecan are going over like crazy. Very tasty. AND if you mix them correctly, let the mix set a min of 5 hours, then your yogurt is very smooth and creamy. Much more so than our other frozen yogurt. This product is super creamy, and smooth.
I will say that this product is going over better than our NSA flavors. If you don't think that customers don't really know or don't read about the yogurt, then you are wrong. Parents, young people, older customers, really do understand the difference that sugar has in the products they eat. And I will say, this product does taste good too. no after taste you get on some of the sugar free products. Well worth the effort it takes, IMHO.
Also wanted to mention, that I know that the winter months have affected our bottom line. Im sure ithas with everyone else too. In one town where there is another shop, they have offered us a deal....they want us to buy them out. In other words, us give them $$XXX and they will go out of business, leave town....but in our minds since business is slow anyway, just wait them out. They will go out of business weather we give them any money or not. I think they are grasping at straws. Hope everyone has had a nice thanksgiving holiday and are looking forward to the Christmas holidays. We do sell alot of gift cards, they make great gifts and stocking stuffers.

We tried both, but for convience the liquid is better. BUT the Simply 8 product is a powder that has to be mixed up at least 5 hours before using. That is the only one difference we are using. The rest is either Yocream or Honey Hill both of which is the frozen liquid that must be thawed out before pouring into machines.
