Judith, you've made me want to jump in my car and go right now! What a great idea is the guacamole being made right at the table? I'm a California native who loves well-prepared Mexican dishes. Albondigas is a favorite that I have not ever found here in Florida. I can't wait! Thanks for the tip!

We visited Taste of Mexico based on this review and our experience was the opposite of the reviewer. The server was polite but the food took a very long time considering that there were only two other tables. The salsa tasted like catsup and the other dishes were flavorless. I would not recommend it.

I went through those problems too when I moved down there from CA.I AM NOT DENOUNCING ANY OF THESE NEW PLACES.This was early 90's.I make my own "authenic" Mexican food.
It can be a pain though, and laborous marinating,or making two,or three different fresh salsas. If you have guests you have to make mellow hot sauce(I'll buy bottles if I don't feel like it).I make "Weapons of A$$ Destruction"!

Good Luck!

Visited this restaurant a few months back and experienced the opposite of this review. The salsa was watery with no flavor, the food was average but what made this a poor experience was the service. The waitress was horrible. The restaurant must hold 50 plus tables but there were only two tables filled that night. The waitress arrived late to take the order and could not explain the menu. When the food arrived she handed HOT plates to my children. I have never seen this before. The entrees were incorrect, ordered the chicken burrito and was given the pork burrito. Side dishes were wrong, my rice and beans were on my wife's plate. Afterward she never visited the table to see how things were. We had to hunt her down. And to end this unpleasant experience they mislabeled the coupons. The coupon I tried to use was "children eat free with the purchase of an adult entree." We have two kids and ordered two adult meals. They would not accept the other adult meal for the free kids meal. After all the poor service and poor food I was hassled by the waitress and the owner over this coupon. A terrible experience and it is a shame they are in the building that used to house Jalapenos. Do yourself a favor and go down the street and visit Guadalaja on pine island and sunrise or La Bamba on Nob and Sunrise. Better yet visit Taco Bell.

You WILL NOT get Mexican here as good as in CA - period. I LOVE LOVE LOVE mex but have never had it as good as in CA. That said, don't bother with La Bamba or any of the others that are only mediocre. Baja in Boca and Deerfield is pretty great CA-style mex. I've also heard good things about Dona Raquel's in Pompano (supposed to be very authentic and a hole in the wall).

In the 26+ years I've lived here I've really only had good Mexican food a couple of times. There's a place on Dixie near Atlantic that's good (it may be Dona Raquel if I recall). Also Antojitos Mexicanos on 441 in Margate is good. La Bamba was good a LONG time ago. Now it's more like Taco Bell. I still haven't tried Taste of Mexico and now probably won't based on what I've read here today! I'll give Baja a try now thanks to your recommendations.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Broward area. We live in Plantation and my husband and I decided to give the restaurant a try this weekend. They prepare guacomole tableside, but more impressive are the homemade sauces such as salsa, red, green or mole sauce on the enchiladas, etc.. The burrito we ordered had real steak and was not heavy on the fillers such as rice and beans. You get a choice of two sides with numerous entrees. The presentation of the food is artistic and not typical of most Mexican restaurants. The salad was beautiful and the dressing homemade. A beef consomme was served complimentary with a slice of lemon along with the chips and homemade salsa. The restaurant has very lovely decor, as well. And the server and owner couldn't have been nicer. Horacio Hernandez is from Mexico City and takes great pride in his restaurant. He spoke with us about his kitchen preparations, at great length. He has only been open two months and is hoping for business to pick up.
Santa Fe "Fajitas"
1787 N. University Dr., Plantation, next to Japan Inn. If you like Mexican food, you will LOVE this restaurant!

Cantina Laredo does have great food, bit pricy for Mexican though, but really good...

I donít make decisions on Mex food based on the salsa and or if the guacamole is made table side or not. I base it on the main course. I order the chicken quesadillas for lunch. The qty was good but the flavor was awful. You could taste the fact that the chicken was made at least one day prior as it had that micro waived chicken flavor. I was expecting grilled chicken pieces not reheated white chicken from the micro wave. Jalapeno was much better in many other regards and I miss it.

I must of eaten in the wrong Taste of Mexico! We went there for lunch one day last week and should of known once we walked into the restaurant, that this was the same location of another failed Mexican restaurant in West Broward. But since we were already there, we figure let's get this a shot! Not only were we the only ones having lunch at noon, which should of been our first clue.
We ordered off the lunch menu ...one taco and one chicken enchiladas. What we got was one tiny mini taco with a couple little pieces of chicken and the enchiladas was nothing except a few pieces of cheese. When I asked the waiter about this...he said that's what I ordered.
Need I say more...but we got up and walked out...of course we paid our $6.30 bill, but didn't even eat the lunch. We ended up going to La Bamba's where we should of gone in the first place.
So to read Judith Stocks column, she either has stock in this so called restaurant or they knew she was coming. Don't even waste your time trying this place out... it will NEVER make it especially with so many other good Mexican restaurants in West Broward.

Please tell me how this comment is at all helpful to this message board? If you're going to tell me that Cuban food is better, then at least tell me a good place to get some in Broward county.

A taste of Mexico has been out of business for some time, it was replaced by Honey's sports bar and that too has shut down. The store has been vacant most of this year.
