You are correct. The Sycamore is just plain filthy. The burger assembler doesn't wear gloves.

I've tried it. Went with wife and 5-yr old daughter. We all enjoyed it. I can vouch for the dogs, shakes, burgers (tasty but too small), chicken fingers, and fries.

Nothing truly "special", but the items we tried were all a good value (quality in relation to price).

Plan to return regularly.

I can't believe you are dumping on the Sycamore. It's an institution.

Where else can you buy a cr*ppy tasting hamburger, in an uncomfortable place to sit, and overpay for it?

Let's support the Dog House. At least the owners are doing the work and will make sure it is done properly.

I like a number of restaurants in New Fairield, but the Dog House is definitely a great add to the town and I have been then quite a few times since I first heard about them. So far there have been no waiting lines, but I think that will change once other town members find out about our new restaurant.

The dogs are nothing special. The guy with the cart further up 37 is ten times better. Also the smallish burgers seem to be of the frozen storebought variety.

That being said Good Luck. They'll need it at that location.

If you want a good Dog check out the hot dog cart at the old Durant's location on Federal Road in Danbury. Dogs are delicious and the sausage and peppers is AMAZING!!

does anyone know what happened to Big Ed's? I know the son had taken over after his wonderful Mom had passes away, but haven't seen him for a long time. Too bad, Ed's was an institution. RIP Doreen and Chris.

I will start off by saying, I don't want to see any business in town fail. That being said, I have to say the food there is mediocre at best. The chili is laden with beans, which does not go well on a hot dog (in my opinion). I would give the hot dog itself a 5 out of 10. It's a standard hot dog that anyone could buy at the local market. The real shame is the burgers, they appear to have been frozen.

There is a hot dog truck up Rt 37 (next to cemetery) open tue-sat. That place has the best dogs I have had in recent memory! And the chili is amazing!!!!

As somebody who owns a restaurant in a neighboring town I am not sure why the first selectman would take a cheap shot at one of his local businesses. Does the hot dog cart by the cemetery employ local kids? Pay local rent? It is no wonder there are so many empty store fronts in New Fairfield...how about a little support for a family working together to try and make a go. Nice to have a choice that is not pizza. And for the record...I have been to the Dog House many times and have been very pleased with their food. Their prices are very fair and the food fine. They are exactly what they claim to be...a quick meal at a fair price.

You actually think that the first selectman wrote that?
That was no more the first selectman than I'm really George Clooney.

I just discovered The Dog House today, and I say unreservedly it is the best hot dog I have had since the old, the REAL Howard Johnson's shut so many years ago. I have tried dogs all over the place -- Fairfield's Super Duper Weenie,, Mamaroneck's Walter's, Delaware's battle between Deerpark and The Dog House -- and not a one of them was worth the money, the effort, or the calories. New Fairfield's The Dog House, however, is. The dog itself is split and grilled, but the BUN is the secret weapon. It appears to be lightly coated with liquified butter before being placed on the grill to get toasty -- but not too much so -- and brown. They have an excellent house onion relish, too. Nothing compliments such first-rate offerings better than the chocolate shakes that taste like --AMAZING!!-- homemade, not synthetic slop burped from a machine.

I recommend this place whole-heartedly and without reservation. It is a gem, worth my driving up from Brooklyn.

I tried it and the hot dogs rock. The Ridgefielder is the best with shredded cheese, bacon, chopped tomato and lettuce. Linda and Tom are really nice and they have great stuff for the kids! Outdoor seating is perfect, yummy milk shakes- what more can you ask for on a hot spring day??
