It was the $5 loaf of bread that finally got my attention. Sure, I'd noticed that cartons of ice cream and boxes of cereal had gotten smaller and that my weekly grocery tab was getting larger.

People please---everyone acts like this is a new concept. Those of us that have always been on the lower income scale and trying to raise families without using credit cards to fund a lifestyle that we cannot afford have been shopping at these stores for years. Budgeting, using coupons, cooking from scratch, buying off brands, going to garage sales and consignment shops, etc. have always been a waf of life for some of us. These stores have been around a long time. It is only now that the higher income brackets have had to curtail their wasteful spending that these stores and the rest of us bargain shoppers are getting the credit we deserve. As for those that are too embarrassed by what others might think to reveal that they actually shop at these stores, shame on you!
