The abuse of animals may not be as critical an issue to some as the ability to fill up one's gas tank with cheap gas, but this does not mean that it should not be addressed at all.

Foie gras is a cruel dish, which is produced by force-feeding ducks and geese until they develop liver disease. Sound appetizing? Not to me. I applaud the Takoma Park City Council for taking a stand against this egregious form of animal cruelty.

You see Maryland (especially Takoma Park)? This is what you get when you vote a buch of retarded liberals into office. You get crap about banning foie gras, eggs having to come from cage free animals, illegal immigrant santuary policies, and of course the higher taxes to pay for all this crap. Glad I live in VA, that's all I have to say on that one.

For those who do have conservative values in MD, I apoligize, but I also urge you to vote those idiots out of office and reclaim MD.

Thats because you'er a pantywaist. There are far far worser dishes than foie gras. What if I want to enjoy in foie gras? Why should your beliefs or morals interfere with what I want to consume? Thats the whole problem I have with stupid self serving organizations like PETA. If you think it's cruel don't eat it.

Takoma Park is an utter waste pit with no redeeming quality whatsoever.

Kaelinda - You need to get your fact straight!

The HSUS as well as other animal control agencies are forced to "kill" millions of homeless pets each year because of HUMANS....ignorant HUMANS who breed irresponsibly and owners who can't be bothered to properly train or care for their pets.

The goal of organizations like HSUS, ASPCA, PETA is to prevent the needless suffering of animals. They don't delude themselves by thinking that they can ban all meat-eating...they simply want to reach out to the masses and let them know what sort of suffering the animals must endure in order for that hamburger to appear on your plate. In the US, we're so far removed from the process of the factory farming process that we're not exposed to what HUMANS put these animals through...especially in order to save their own bottom line.

I'm not a zealot, I'm not a vegetarian, a vegan, or any of that. I just think that people need to be more aware of the affects that they have on this world. I think most people would be horrified to see what happens behind the scenes - I don't see a problem with people opening their eyes and minds to see it...without jumping to a conclusion that animals will be running around and taking over the country.

So, sit there with your blinders on if you want...but leave people alone that wish to remove theirs.

I should point out that "animals wandering all over the country" includes pets such as dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, rabbits, hamsters and reptiles, as well as cattle, sheep, swine, alpacas, emus, zoo animals, farm animals, circus animals - ALL animals. Because well meaning people keep supporting PETA and HSUS, not realizing that their local humane society is NOT part of the Humane Society of the United States (which actually kills more than 2/3 of the animals they "rescue." And people don't realize that these organizations, along with the Animal Liberation Front want to outlaw meat eating - as well as eating eggs, cheese, butter, milk, fish, poultry, and any other form of animal life. In other words, all humans should be vegans until someone comes up with the idea that even vegetation has rights.
