i imagine, that when the float was approved, that there were stipulations. i doubt they'll be wearing baring costumes, and i doubt they'll be able to show anything that's considered vulgar...again, if a young child asks, you don't have to lie. tell them what it is, some younger children will be too interested in the float itself, than what it stands for. you're making much too big of a deal about this. if people didn't glorify things like this, there'd be nothing to "deal with". but when people keep going off about it, things get stirred up, when they really don't need to. and christian or not, is it not wrong of you to come to a forum and continuously post about it, and keep making things bigger than they should be? my fiance's mom is a big christian, but i haven't heard her mention she isn't going to the parade, because there's going to be a gay pride float. and she'll have her grandkids with her, too!

I was asked to pull that float with my rascal scooter but I denied the offer. I don't have time. Too much beer to drink and Dairy Queen footlong hot dogs with sauce to eat. Heading out here soon to get a cold Monday morning beer and a Krispy Kreme at Speedway. Cruising over to Broadway to check out what carnival trailers are there already.

I was informed yesterday "sunday" 9/27/09, that this year that there is going to be a "Gay Pride Float" in the Apple Day Parade,And as a Christian and a Mother and a Grandmother and resident of Johnson Coounty,Ky.I want to let others know how I feel about this issue. First of all, in all the years of the Apple Day Festival,I have never heard nothing like this ever being allowed to take place in the Parade. And I think that who ever allowed this should, take into consideration alot of things about this being allowed in the parade. There is alot of "Kids" that attends this Festival and Parade every year, And what do you think that the "Kids" are going to think about seeing a "Gay Pride Float" in the Parade? What kind of "Impact" is this going to have on the "Kids" and how is this going to be explained to them? It is bad enough that we have to educate our kids about the "Drug Problems" we have here, to keep them off Drugs, and educate them about, everything else that could harm our kids, but here now, is this something that we are going have to do when our kids question us, "What is Gay Pride",when they see the float in the parade? I don't agree with this at all, As a Christian and a Mother and a Grandmother! This should have never been allowed to happen! I have a son that soon will turn "13"yrs.old and yes, due from what he has seen and heard in the school that he attends, he knows the meaning of "Being Gay" but he also knows that it is not "Right" that "GOD MADE ADAM FOR EVE, NOT FOR STEVE"! But what about the kids that are younger and the ones that doesn't know what the word "GAY" even means? How are the parents going to explain this to their kids and grandkids.? IT IS SOMETHING THAT THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE TO BE FACED WITH TO EXPLAIN TO THIER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN! And this is going to hurt the outcome of the Apple Day Festival as well as the parade. SO as a parent and grandparent, It is my duty to protect my son and grandchildren, and as far as us as a family attending the Parade, Well they can count us out! Cause I am not going to allow my son, to see a "GAY PRIDE FLOAT IN THIS PARADE"! Our kids see way to much as it is, and they surely don't need to see something like this! And I am sure that the City of Paintsville, will see a big decline in the number of people that attends the Parade. But they should have thought about this issue before hand! So Shame on the People that allowed this "GAY PRIDE FLOAT TO BE IN THE APPLE FESTIVAL PARADE"! CAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT HAS TO ANSWER TO GOD FOR THIS.
Nice WALL OF TEXT. Use some seperation, geez.
Anyways, it's up to you to teach whatever tripe you want to your kids and grandkids in the privacy of your own home, but in public, you have no say over it.
You people need to be more tolerent of others ways of life. Christianity is not the only walk of life, as hard as that may be for you idiots to swallow.
You may want to raise your children to be ingnorant, intolerant bigots, but I do not. Eastern KY is a cesspool, full of dying ideas and beliefs. My children shall never be raised in this intolerent, hate-filled town.

I'm proud that they approved the float, and it is a step in the right direction.

not always true,it costs quite a bit of cash to set up a booth over the weekend,by the time you pay the city, and your food expenses,it is hard to turn a profit. We rely heavily on volunteers to help donate food items and time,we use whatever profit to support our youth group from church.

Apple Day has always been very special to me, it's lots of fun, especially since I don't live in Paintsville anymore. It's fun getting to see people that you haven't seen in awhile. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Apple Day this year. God Bless!

First of all, I would like the ones that posted "their comments to my post on here regarding the Gay Pride Float in the Apple Day Parade", to understand, As for Myself and My Family, we have the "Right" to take a "Stand" for what we believe in and what we don't believe in. And as Parents,Grandparents, and Christians, it is our responsibilty,to teach our children and grandchildren,'What is Right and What is Wrong" according to the "Bible".And in Response to the person that made the comment "Don't Lie to your kids or Grandchildre,Tell them the Truth", well as christians, First of all that is what we do is tell them the "Truth",And the "Truth" is that this is "Wrong" for having a Gay Pride Float in the Apple Day Parade. No, they may not be upon the float promoting their "Lifestyle",but you know Kids can Read!

well then, thank a teacher...but when your grandchildren get older, and find they have homosexual friends, do you expect your grandchildren to shut those friends out? to walk away, and pretend they never existed? or do you expect them to throw the Bible in their friend's faces? either way, that friend won't have much to do with your grandchildren either way, because rather than just accepting people are "different" you are possibly going to make them miserable. especially today, when gays are adopting, and getting married...and obviously in your hometown!

personally, i've come to believe that "some" christians(not all, but a few), are more or less racist in their own way...i really just don't care how my friends live. if they're gay, fine, i don't want to be, so i don't want them trying to persuade me lol...but that doesn't mean, that a friend i've had since 2nd grade, will get the boot from me, b/c he finally came out of the closet 3 years ago. AND that he apparently has a kid! his ex of all people, who should "hate" him, if you must, finds it sad that he hid everything...but she's HAPPY her child will have the opportunity, to understand what it's like growing up these days, with all the animosity going around!

First of all,in response to the comment made about this issue,"The Gay Pride Float",as a Mother,of 2 sons, ages 21yrs.old and 13 yrs.old and then a grandmother of 2 boys. I started teaching my sons to read and write and etc. before they ever started into the public school systems. And as far as me being a racist, I am not. And as far as "Gay People" go,I worked with several "Gay People", and they were good friends of mine, which they always showed me respect, and never tried to push their lifestyles over on me. But when it comes to our children today and our grandchildren and all the rest of this younger generation, it is really hard for them cause of all that is going on these days and times, and it is hard for a child to understand what the word "Gay" means, exspecially when they have never been taught what it means. And as a parent and grandparent i shouldn't have to sit down my youngest son, and my grandsons, and try to explain to them at a young age, what the meaning of "Gay" is all about. And as far as them seeing a "GAY PRIDE FLOAT" in this parade, well as a parent and grandparent, It is My Right,to decide if I want them to see this. I voiced my "Opinion" on here about this issue, because, I just don't think that this is a "Appropiate" thing to have in a Parade when this event will have so many young kids attending it.I never taught my oldest son, when he came to me and confronted me about the word "GAY" to be racist against people that live this lifestyle. I explained to him what this word meant, but I also explained to him "THAT GOD MADE ADAM FOR EVE,NOT FOR STEVE", and that in gods eyes, this was wrong. And for example,if they had a "Float in this Parade, promoting "DRUG PRIDE" As a parent and grandparent, I would do the same thing, which would be not to let my kids attend it. The point that I am making about this is, that our kids these days and times see enough and hear enough,of the things that are "WRONG" in this world. So why take our kids to something like this that is only going to add to all that they see "WRONG" in this world already! It's really sad that our younger generation today, has enough to influence them. And they surely don't need anymore added upon what they already have to see going on these days.

GIVE IT UP GRANDMA, TIMES HAVE CHANGED. THE YEAR IS 2009 NOT 1909.
CATCH UP WITH THE WORLD OR AT LEAST OTHER CITIES IN OUR COUNTRY.
BESIDES, LOOK AT YOUR FAMILY BEFORE YOU START TO JUDGE OTHERS. YOUR CLOSET IS FULL OF FAMILY STILL IN IT.

My family travels very far to come to the Apple Festival, we were really disappointed this year, There were only about 3 floats in the parade which pertained to apples, some were good, but most of them were just trucks hauling kids that were too fat to walk the parade route, or bussiness advertising their products or policatains standing up in the back of a pickup throwing candy, where were the props on a float where was the imagation and the planning that should go into a float, it was a very big dissapintment. does everyone who puts ballons on a pickup think that they are in the parade? The parades in the 80 were great bands would come from all over the state and so many floats, but that was when it was a honor to be asked to be in the Apple Day parade, and people really worked on a float for weeks before the "big day", But now its just to advertise and go throw some ballons on a truck that you drove to town and puts some little fat kids, that really could use the excerise, to ride it blow your horn and walla you have been in the Apple Parade !
