Food poisoning can occur anywhere but one of the two times I have had a severe case of some form of food contamination was from a KFC outlet nearly thirty years ago. I lost 5kg in the first 4 days and another 2kg in the next 4 days going from 55-56 kilos to 49 a loss I could not afford, passed out on day 5 and had severe concussion from hitting my head on the way down. I was unable to work or care for my children for 2 weeks and even then wasn't completely recovered. The aftermath of this was that I was unable to go into the vicinity of a KFC as the smell alone evoked immediate violent vomiting. It was embarrassing and life controlling. This lasted for over 10 years. I still react to the smell but with much lesser effect, now it just turns my stomach. Samonella can be fatal and we all risk food poisoning from mild to severe on a regular basis. But we can minimise the risks and there are certainly food sources that are of a much higher risk and both consumer and food provider must be aware of this. This poor child has been robbed of a full life experience and expenses that will be faced during her care will be extensive.
Some comments are sceptical as to the extent that food poisoning could be so life threatening. I write this comment to say that it can be.
Not sure what was worse, this or the bad oyster that was a totally different experience. If you haven't experienced severe poisoning you would have no idea of how life threatening it can be.
