This is a strange phenomenon that I thought I had figured out, but was perplexed again today. Usually, if a doughnut shop is next door to one of those finger nail salons, it is a good bet that the chocolate glaze is going to taste just like the acrylic nail crap that they use in the salon. However, today I ate at a doughnut shop that is in a free standing building and no nail salon anywhere near the place, and the chocolate glaze still tasted like acrylic. What is the answer to this? Is there some sort of cheap, nasty glaze out there that some doughnut shops use? Anyone else ever notice this phenomenon besides me and a few of my friends?
The best chocolate glaze I have ever had was from a small doughnut shop in Red Oak, Texas named "Donut Depot". Thick, creamy, and tastes like real milk chocolate... not the slightest hint of acrylic like so many other places.
