While Warning About Fat, U.S. Pushes Cheese Sales

Nov 7, 2010 | Posted by: Mr_Bill | Full story: www.nytimes.com

Domino's Pizza was hurting early last year. Domestic sales had fallen, and a survey of big pizza chain customers left the company tied for the worst tasting pies.

Then help arrived from an organization called Dairy Management. It teamed up with Domino’s to develop a new line of pizzas with 40 percent more cheese, and proceeded to devise and pay for a $12 million marketing campaign.

Of course. The powers that be are always deciding what we "should" eat.

It's when they force their opinions on the people, they overstep their authority.

I'm kind of in agreeance with bobbysomers. I think it's slowly coming to a point where we WILL be told what we can and cannot eat. Who is behind this? The insurance industry.

Do you think for one moment the government gives a hoot about your health? They couldn't care less if you drop dead tomorrow. HOWEVER...the insurance industry stands to lose money on your poor dietary habits.

It wasn't the government's idea to make cigarette smoking such a socially unacceptable health hazard. Insurance companies were losing money like crazy over cigarette related illnesses. Now that they've convinced about 90% of the population not to smoke, they're starting in on obesity. And they WILL (with the government's help) alter our eating habits whether we like it or not.

Yes, we live in a nation of fatties, it's true. But we also live in a nation of capitalism and THAT creates a world where consumers are provided an abundance of choices. Does anything - government or industry - have the right to tell us how to eat or to force a business to make changes in the food it serves?

I don't think so and I think we need to be very aware of how much power certain industries in this country have when it comes to OUR freedoms as opposed to THEIR profits.

The picture I see is of the government getting bigger and bigger. Diminishing our liberties day by day. Controlling our lives by ever increasing regulations. The big picture you refer to is complete government control of our lives but you cannot see it because of the socialist blinders that you you wear.
