Bakers across the county have been frying special-recipe doughnuts to feed the masses who consider Fastnachts a culinary tradition prior to the start of Lent.

Catholics are such simpletons. Anything for attention. Special donuts, putting ash marks on the forehead, lent, covering up socially and morally reprehensible crimes committed in the church. Enough already.

ROFLMAO! Yeah, those wily Catholics, dressing up like Mennonites and engaging in Pennsylvania Dutch traditions! Enough already.

Bigots are such simpletons. Hating on everything they don't understand and too clueless to know it just broadcasts how blindingly stupid they are.

Fastnachts are most definitely a Mennonite tradition, and only a simpleton would confuse them with Catholics :)

I grew up Catholic, and the typical pre-lent treat for us were chocolate covered peanut butter and mashed potato eggs.

As for not eating meat on Fridays, most of us roughed it by eating shrimp, crabs, scallops, lobster, and various fried fish. Oh, sweet, delicious meat abstinence.

The Orthodox have a very strict fast, no dairy,no meat, no wine, no olive oil. This fast started a few days ago and ends on Pascha (Easter).

By the way, this year Pascha is April 15 for the Orthodox. Western Easter is April 8.

This past Sunday was Meatfare. Last day for eating meat, dairy, oil, wine, until the fast is over.

So, let me get this straight...
Catholics do Lent
Mennonites do donuts
Christians do gluttony
Buffalo Bill likes to appear semi new
Bigots are still simpletons
The Orthodox fast
and Effington abstaines from "sweet delicious meat"
Pennsylvania is a very complicated state between Pittsburgh and Philly.
