"Bigger than Coachella" - yeah, I'd say they'll need some luck with that.

Folks are in for a big surprise when they see the "large grassy area" (mentioned at http://steakfestnewmexico.com/... ) that they've been invited to sit in is basically a corner lot full of dirt.

Right? I am amazed it's called "fair grounds". I do look forward to it, sadly wish it were held at the real fairgrounds, though.

Good Luck with the event. I hope the Beef promotion goes well. We have beat up on the Adobe Deli enough lately.

Or maybe at that fancy amphitheater in the pit that just sits there empty all of the time!

I posted this comment on the other forum about this event. Believe me, with these prices and the location of the event (said with disappointment), this place is going to need much more than luck.

For this being out in the middle of nowhere like some Podunk town, it's gonna be pricey just for the admission.

$15 for a minor

$27 for a single day entry

$42 for a ticket for both days

That doesn't include the food, wine tasting, etc.

To be out on something similar to the SNM Fairgrounds and charging that much for admission is nuts.
More than luck

Well I hope the majority of the 15,000+ poeple come from out of town. They are planning these events on the eve of the Deming High School graduation ceremony? Plus $42 per ticket? WOW! Its the first year, maybe they should have been a little more conservative on the ticket prices for an event that people have never experienced. Prices for a festival like this should go up over the years and for this one they will likely have to lower prices in the future. Bigger than Coachella? Come on now...Good luck to the organizers and I wish them well.

So much for being bigger than Coachella! It was a joke and no where near the amount of people they expected. Try again.

Well, I didn't go so should keep my mouth shut. However, me believes that bringing the event into town and moderating the price would make for a more well attended event. I do like the idea put out by another poster to use the ampitheater. Someone will probably pooh-pooh that with some logistical problem, but it would be a way to promote beef, wine, and the ampitheater with one event. And again, above all, let's have some realistic pricing for some of these events.

What was the reason the amphitheater was built in the first place?

Beats me, but whatever the reason, it must have vanished cause it doesn't seem to be used for much.
Wondering

Will there be another Steakfest this year? Maybe the suggestions from last year could be taken into consideration and make this an even bigger and better event and give Deming another annual event to look forward to. Maybe add a western wear fashion show, live music, wine tasting, western impersonators, wild west show, etc. Many possiblities.
