Not quite right.

The proper Soylent was made from Soya & Lentils hence the name, was either yellow or orange. Green was supposed to be from a mix with cultured algae.

Harry Harrison's novel actually was a comment on overcrowding caused by the "right to life brigade", beloved of the deep southern evangelists. The film was a 5* remake & was even better by adding the interesting side twist.

The green stuff with people in it came later (hence the brouhaha in the film). it was however popular enough in the overcrowded city blocks to cause food riots (film again).

The real point of interest however was its link with the modern food chain involving the usage of MBM in animal feeds & the subsequent outbreak of BSE (UK & surrounds) & CWD (USA & surrounds) that followed this recycle mill feedback loop.

As an aside: Ever see the video B movie "The stuff"? Now that one is a must see for the BSE & CWD crisis threads.

Have a nice day: Ag
