Full story: NewsTimes.com

That's what David Golden and Ray Harper, founders of Maggie McFly's Unique Eatery, were looking for when they opened their first restaurant in Middlebury in 1993.

From the story:

"Coincidentally, in the movie series "Back to the Future," actress Lea Thompson plays a character named Maggie McFly. While this character is not connected to the restaurant in any way, "we were excited when the movie made a reference to our restaurant in it," Harper said."

The movie; 'Back To The Future', was made in 1985. These two slicksters opened their overpriced restaurant in 1993. So, they obviously took the character's name from the movie for their restaurant's name...not the other way around.

Nice lie.

I have been to this place in Southbury. If you gave eaten at TGI Fridays, Bennigan's, Applebee's, etc., then you have eaten at Maggie McFly's. Lots of brass and ferns, decor similar to Rosy Tomorrow's. Food is ok, prices similar to those mentioned above. Hey, at least it's not another Spasi/Barca/Prespa clone! Has anyone been to Della Francesca on Mill Plain--the former Nobe?

Don't forget that other Albanian-run restaurant down the road in Brewster - Rraci.

at least its independently owned and has live music. Brookfield doesn't need another Applegans or TGI Olive Garden

Wasn't the original owners partners with Rosy's in Danbury? I think the Mcfly's off Exit 17 is the best out of them all.

WOW! we were also there and had bad service. The waitress requested what my wife was eating by asking,'What about you?'

Service is a major complaint at all of the Maggie McFly's.

sounds like improper use of the english language is a bigger complaint than the service.

We picked up take-out on Monday and it was delicious. It was ready quickly and waiting for me when I arrived -- unlike many other places which complete each piece at a different time, make me wait and screw up my order. I will be ordering from them again soon and I will be dining in. The dining room and bar looked great; much nicer than the Middlebury location I once visited. Brookfield's and Danbury's restaurant selections are looking up. Its sad to see people complain here. Those three similar restaurants on Mill Plain provide competition and bring people to the area to eat, which will only benefit us by enticing more restaraunts to open. The phenomenon is similar to another furniture store on Federal Rd bringing even more people to Federal Rd to spend money in our local economy. Some of us understand positive growth as an indicator of increased standard of living.

We thought it was great and a nice alternative to Chris's Steakhouse which has gotten way over-priced.

Actually, Gary Kurz from Rosy's opened the original maggies, Ray was his assistant manager. Ray used some b.s tactics to take over the restaurant. Arent reporters supposed to verify the facts before writing articles? This paper is a sham.

Overdevelopment and no open space are the sign of falling home prices. Look for more dollar stores if you see this going on.

Where did this restaurant go up, exactly? Did they take over an existing *empty* space, or did they plow over the last remaining tree left in Brookfield on Route 7?

I agree with the shady tactics part on behalf of Ray...and the misreporting on behalf of NT.

If they appropriated the name from a movie made in 1985, then say it wasn't the case, you have to wonder what other shams they're perpetrating.

the service in the Southbury one is bad. Ive eaten there probably 6 times and it was never good service. The food is nothing special, same old. I've been to the bar a few more times. The drinks are overpriced and the bar is depresing. I prefer the Rathskeller. The owners are usually working and the staff is very friendly. It's a real pub and great food.

I just used yahoo maps with 195 Federal road and got "Anytime Fitness". Looks like it's across from Costco towards Danbury a bit.
