Hello you are talking about a 60 some odd year old southern lady. Is it a surprise that sometime in her life she used what is now a slur? My grandmother, rest her soul, was born bred and died in Kentucky, used what would be considered slurs when refering to many black (african american to be pc) people. This was NOT because she was racist. The dear lady did not have a racist bone in her body. It is because that was how she was raised. Over the years she changed her language, well toned it down. But if you asked her if she EVER used a racial slur, the answer would be yes. Not in a truelly raicist manor or intent, but in a that is the commoly accepted terminolgy for the time sort of way. I am sure it is the same for Paula and most "elderly" southern folk.

My father is a 69 year old Southern man. He does not use such words. If he ever did, I never heard him, and I am 40 years old. AFA?IK, with Deen, we are not talking about using the N-word 40 years ago. If she uses such language she not only tolerates racism, she promotes it.

A) according to her affidative when she u sed it was right after being held up at gun point in a bank20 plus years ago.... Ask anyone if they may have said something they may later regret under a similar situation.
B)Ask your dad how common that word was from others when he wsa groing up., not used in a racist way, but in a coloquial way.
C) Do you want to be held responsible for things you said 20years ago... Has your thoughts and language changed since then.... but we must hold Paula to what she said back then....

everyone says something at some time in their life they regret, I dont hold it against someone unless there really is hate in that persons heart.
only Deen herself knows the answer to that...
