Hi Adaku,

OK SO IT BEGINS TODAY!- 30 Days to begin with. We all need to be HONEST - if you break it, you have to come on here and say it. We have to try our best. I am on iron tablets and never thought it would help with the craving, but it has. So maybe check your iron count ladies. Eat alot of iron rich foods and drink enough water to flush out the toxins from your body.

SO the following ladies are in
Craving Clay
Adaku
Worried Clay Addict

Any others interested please join. This challenge will continue till the 3rd June 2012 and then we will try and continue with it from there.

Please try your hardest, this is all for the good of our bodies and those of us who would want to conceive.

God Bless and enjoy your Thursday ;)

<quoted text>hi,like you researched,I have also heard that getting the lead out of your system is really difficult.I understand perfectly that crave that can make you leave your house in the cold to look for nzu, somthing you may not do for other food items.as for nzu and infertility I have seen countless women develop fibroid and also can't get presentgnant,my sister in law is in a bad way now cos she has been married a while now she can't take in,unfortunately she can't seem to respond to the fertility drugs she has been given both clomid and gonal f.if she goes on the fertility drugs and takes as little as half a ball of clay, she starts spotting in 24hours.dint believe her at first but had to believe her when she came over.while its okay for us to talk about it here,I think we should start telling the doctors how bad our addictions are so that this will be properly researched into and more ladies will be aware.you will be alarmed at the number of people who take it,sometimes ladies even think of how to make it more appealing either by grinding or mixing with other types of clay.I don't know if those who take the unsalted clay and corn starch also have fibroids,if they don't then nzu will be critically looked into.
I am really sorry to hear about your sister in law. As a personal research, I am doing a survey on women who have gone on to have children despite the addiction. The survey excludes those who got addicted while pregnant and those who eat clay occasionally...basically to find out if Nzu is really directly/ indirectly responsible for fertility issues in 'addicts'.
Yeah, lead accumulates in the body and can lead to complications if it is in excess. However, with time, the body can flush it from the system...this process can be hastened through a detox.
Honestly, though my intake of clay is ridiculously excessive....I haven't noticed any side effects except that it is taking me longer to conceive than my previous two pregnancies.
That was what got me worried and I started researching.....

that's lovely I'm sure lots of us will be willing to help or rather provide whatever information you need to make the survey a success.from what I know,I was made to understand that one major reason women took clear besides the problem of nausea was excess salivation which people find repulsive.women who take it in large quantities before trying to concieve hardly can take in,I'm sure there are exceptions, but I'm yet to seeanyone.women who have pcos worsen their condition by eating clay.I went to buy yam today and ran into a lady who was also shopping at the Nigerian store.at the counter she had 8 bags of 8 pieces and already was eating a pack at the counter.I couldn't help myself so I asked her why she takes this stuff, she looked at me and said she doesn't know but can't stop.she was shy about the whole thing, when she left, the shop owner said he sells his nzu faster than pepper, that's the second shop I'm hearing that in 2weeks!so. A survey will be great!

<quoted text>what I can sincerely tell you is this, the methods by which these clays are processed vary from place to place,I have discovered that while some mine and eatit without altering it at all some after digging it up,go ahead to add butter, salt, vinegar etc.with nzu,I was told that it is mined from around river banks,so it comes as this soggy clay consistency, then salt is added and it is dried over fire, most of the other clays do not have salt and I don't knw if they are dried over fire.I regret ever having to taste it cos now I'm stuck,I hope one day the link between nzu and inability to concieve will be unravelled, becos many woman addicted to it can't concieve.
Thank you for that information. I too hope that it can be determined once and for all whether there is a link with infertility, and really feel for those women who are having problems.

Interesting how the nzu is handled. I would love to taste it, but my preference generally is for clay with very little handling - just dug up and left in nice tasty chunks!

Good luck. I won't deceive myself by joining in this time. I also think 30 days is a bit ambitious. You should have chosen a shorter number of days and then increased it little by little after each goal has been achieved. But really, good luck and wish you all the best. Please do not keep any clay at all in your homes for the next 30 days.

Now and then I have digestive problems, but I cannot definitively say that's due to clay or the other things I have - and nothing I can't handle. The other things I have include cornstarch (although I have only recently started that again and don't have much) and when I eat it again I sometimes have problems that I know are from the cornstarch - but not enough of a problem to stop me eating it.

The substance that caused me the most trouble was DE - and that was my own fault because I abused it.(That put me off DE for a while but I'm starting to crave that again now.)

I am anaemic and also have fibroids, but my personal belief is that these problems came first and that the anaemia is what initially caused my cravings (although I suspect, like others, that there is a psychological factor because I need it more for example when I'm stressed) Just my thoughts.

Good luck to all in your 30 day challenge. Wish I could join in, but don't feel I can right now.

Seems like a whole lot of people love the earthy taste of clay but I just read on the internet that Nzu an african edible clay contains arsenic and lead and that's clearly bad and dangerous because its poisonous and causes cancer and kidney stones.
In as much as I love eating Nzu, I would never touch it again, and I think that's the wise thing to do.
