Chalk lover, thank you for posting your experience with DE. I have been eating DE for about a year; i didn't know i was addicted to it until I had to work out of town for a week. The whole week i kept thinking about going home to eat DE so when i finished the last bag i had i decided not to buy it again. I had goggled to find out if people are also getting addicted to eating DE, but had not found anything. I should never had tired to eat DE dry like that especially knowing that I have Pica tendencies.
I have been going crazy thinking about it, and today had a very strong craving for clay. Since I am not at home i thought I would find clay tablets or something, but i have walked down town Chicago for hours and could not find a place that sells clay powder, vitamins, or something, which I thank God that I did not find them, I have to get this under control In the end I decided to get iron tablets, since from my reading cravings like these are due to iron deficiency, I will keep taking the iron tables and see if I can get hold of this situation once and for all. I love the way DE tastes and all, but I also know the dangers for continuous inhalation of DE dust particles.

Hi, it is nice to know that someone else eats DE too. Have you ever made chunks from it by mixing it with water? Or do you just eat the powder? I'm not that keen on the powder just by itself. I have mixed the powder with kaolin powder and it tastes much better. But the DE chunks taste the best. I haven't make chunks in ages because of the spots it's given me when I eat too much. Good luck with controlling it. I will pray for you. God has helped me with my cravings for DE and chalk.

Chalk lover, thanks for your reply and for your email. Mine is [email protected]

Yes, I'm in the UK too so don't have access to the soft stone that I love. I guess it would be a type of limestone; the type I have is creamy coloured and even though it's a type of rock it's soft but gritty so you can crumble it in your hand. To me it is so, so good and has what I think of as an earthy taste. Back home I can dig it up on family property. I know that limestone is found in England, but I don't know if it would be the same and in any event I don't have access to be able to dig if up!

Because I don't have regular access to my stone I have substitutes - chalk sticks, cornstarch (cornflour) etc. If I could have my stone I don't think I would need these things.

I haven't tried stadium chalks. I had tried Crayola chalk in the past (years ago) which I quite liked, and wanted to try some again - mainly because I know that Crayola markets their products as non-toxic. They don't seem to sell that brand chalk in any stores where I am so about a year ago I went online and ordered several packs of what I think was the Crayola anti-dust thinking it would have the same taste/texture that I was looking for. I was so excited when it came, but so disappointed when I tried it - it tasted horrible to me.

Well I got my DE yesterday. I couldn't wait for it to arrive, and had a taste of it straight out of the bottle. I thought it was okay, but last night I added water to some and baked it and I really like it like that. I only made a very thin layer though - next time I'll experiment a bit to try to make it thicker/chunkier and bake it longer to see if I can get it harder. I've also tried drinking it dissolved in just a little water and really like that too.(I will remember your warning though, Chalk lover, about having too much.)

I think DE will replace my cornflour and chalk, and am impressed by the possible health benefits I have read about, but I still hope to find the perfect clay!

Hi guys have any of you tried this bentonite clay from amazon?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004BRZ06C/re...
It looks decently priced and is for internal use. Anyone tried this in chunk form?

Hi Clayer, I would advise not to try it. All the bentonite clays that I've tried are slightly salty and worst of all they form huge clumps in your mouth and cling to your teeth instantly. I've tried the red clay chunks from 'clays remedies'- the powder is the same and, I've tried the grey/green colour clay from ebay (same as amazon)and, I've tried the white 'kaolin'edible clay from ebay. All are a type of bentonite clay and all stick instantly to your mouth. The other type of kaolin that is used for face masks and other cosmetics is much nicer and doesn't stick to your mouth as much as the bentonite clays. It is much lighter to and is white, some are also a cream colour (the Australian types) the cream coloured ones are slightly more sticky in your mouth than the white kaolin but the aren't half as bad as the bentonites.
Hope this helps.

i dont know what part of the UK you live but i love in north London and i get my clay from an indian supermarket at bruce groove in totenham. the shop is called bruce groove supermarket. the bus 243, w4 and 123 pass right in front of the shop. hopes this helps. there is also another shop that sells it it called kotoko it an african shop in halsden. you can contact me on my email [email protected]
I went to that shop yesterday. I got the clay that looks like small cylinder shapes and are a very light brown/grey/whitey in colour. They don't taste nice to me. The smell of something heavily burnt and taste like smoke and burnt ashyness. Not earthy in taste and smell at all. I was very disappointed when I tasted them. Plus they leave the burnt taste in your mouth until you eat something else. Here is a pic of what it looks like
http://scienceblogs.com/terrasig/assets_c/201...
They are about half the size of your index finger.
If anyone knows a clay that taste earthy please let me know.

Thanks for replying to me Angela. I'll pray about your job situation, if you don't mind.
If you've just read my message about bentinote clay, I also don't think the white dirt/clay is like bentointe (well I hope not).
