Really? Is that what's happened in Australia? Or have they weathered the international recession better than most, with their minimum wage being twice that of the U.S., and their inflation being less?

Last time we raised the minimum wage, inflation was stagnant. Just keep buying the crank they're selling you, don't bother to check a fact for yourself.

A wealthy person could give someone like you everything they have and the end result would be the creation of two poor people. You would not know what to do with it if you had it.

That's been proven time after time with ppl winning the lotto. It's a lot easier to stand back and watch someone run a business that run one.

True indeed. Any job, and/or, operating a business, is easy if you don't know how to do it. Like someone else said, "When is the last time a poor man gave you a job."

We have lots of costs to name a few utilities, taxes, salaries, maintenance on lot and building, francise fees the are paid to Steak 'n Shake, and we have to deal with $4.00 meals were we make exactly 8 cents. To top it off we have a bunch of employees threatening to walk off the job because they think they should make 15 dollars an hour.

This is not really about the rich. With you it is about the fact that you are miserable with yourself. You see how unimportant, insignificant, and inconsequential you are and it causes you to be miserable. You are simply boiling in your own sauce. You are weak and unable to bring yourself up out of your misery. Your problem could be genetic, a hereditary inferiority that you cannot help. Or, it could be laziness and the fact that you did not get an education when you had the opportunity

Yes indeed, that is the way it works. It is the natural order of the universe, the natural order of life and nature itself. The strong survive, the weak do not. That is the way it is meant to be and it is right, it is good. You narrow minded misfits and chronically malcontented should have paid more attention in school, gotten yourselves an education, got a good job and worked hard at it. Doing so would allow you to make connections, and elevate yourself to a position of power. Had you done those things you would not now have to be down there looking up, pizzing and moaning about those that have taken care of themselves. Maybe it is not too late for you. Maybe you could go back to school get yourself up there where you so desperately want to be.

Using knowledge gained from your own rant above, you should have approximately one week to live. Only the strong survive eh. Goodluck.

Seriously, people such as yourself make me sick to my stomach. "Genetic superiority" does not qualify one for a better quality of life. "Go back to school" , this assumption is long overdue for a major overhaul. It assume that everyone has equal abilities..... they don't. Yet that does not mean they deserve less than the ones that do.
Just your assumption that I myself am not "Well to do" simply because a blasted a rich prick for being a rich prick, is ludicrous in and of itself. You seriously should assume so much, it makes you look foolish.
"Only the strong survive " is an old concept that if taken literally would mean that regardless of how much money you have, or your intellectual state, a guy that can kick you ass has a better chance of Survival that you do. It's basic male egotistical machoism, and it no longer applies in a civilized society. That the key work here, civilized. Are you civilized? Just from your rant above, it would seem not.

Really? Because I will tell you what I do with my excess money after I pay the bills. I pay for cable and internet and the rest is put into the bank, invested, or given to charity. It certainly isn't wasted on billboards advertising my religion and politics, like a certain group of super rich people we have around here does with theirs. You don't know me, so don't pretend to know me.

I wish the one in Cape was as clean and good as the one in Bluff. Also, could you try to insist that your employees wash their uniforms more than once a week. The place and staff are dirty.

I'm seeing a lot of worn out old class warfare arguments going down here. A huge dose of blue collar resentment matched by an equally huge dose of social Darwinism. You're both missing the point I think. Martin Luther King had about six thousand dollars to his name on the day he was killed. Mother Theresa and Ghandi had nothing. All of them and others 'had' nothing, but were everything they were supposed to be. Heck, even Jesus died and only left behind a handful of carpenter tools and a little bootleg wine from a party he threw the year before. But you guys still believe that whoever dies with the most money 'wins'. You both need to get a life and get rid of the attitudes. So, that's all I've got to say about that. Stupid is as stupid does. That's what mama always said, and besides, standing up on this podium makes me airsick!

but the point is you spend your money the way you want to. Why do you need Internet and cable and why do you need to save money?? That's selfish I think you should give it away you have no right to spend it like you want!!!!

A reasonable minimum wage would be about $10.50 That would be keeping with minimum wages of past decades adjusted for inflation. And I'll say what I please, if the citizens of Cape must be subjected to your holier-than-thou religious posturing all over the city, then you can deal with criticism.
As for cowards, you're the ones that use your money to get what you want at the expense of the people that do the real work. You bleed hard working people dry, and you rich trash don't feel the slightest bit of remorse for it. You're terrified of losing even a little money and you'll ruin as many lives as it takes to stay rich. That's cowardice.
Your last paragraph just reveals the sort of people you are. You don't know what real work is, you don't know anything about how normal people live, you're incapable of even feeling bad about how you're destroying the local economy. You people are less than human, and that's putting it kindly.
For a group that likes to tout your religious objections to abortion, you sure don't live like Christians should.
Spoken like a true laborer only. Get more training or an education. Don't be mad at other who get a job and don't have to do hard work to get by. It sounds like you are made at others for your station in life.

Actually that wasn't your point. When your pathetic arguments fail, own up to it and move on with your life. I never said people don't have a right to spend their money how they please. I said they have a moral obligation to provide fair pay. The only expenditure of money I've criticized is the religiously motivated political signs the Drury bunch has all over Cape. And my criticism there is that they're hardly living like Christians themselves, so the signs are hypocritical in addition to being an eyesore. I don't care if they want to waste their money on that, but the least they could do is pay their employees a wage that takes inflation over the last 30 years into account.

You're not very good with reading comprehension.

Spoken like someone with no knowledge of the realities of our economy. And again with the ignorant assumptions about who I am, and my level of skill and education. Making foolish statements and unfounded assumptions seems to be a problem endemic of the greedy. As I've said before, I'm well to do. Perhaps you should actually read through the entire topic before commenting in the future.

But by all means, remain ignorant and help people like the Drury's continue steering this country into economic ruin. You're only hurting yourself in the process.

Tisí a dreadful thing to be caught up in a game and have no idea of the rules.

Many posts here give evidence that there is a great need for a great many people to attend an Economics 101 class.

Maybe a business owner would pay their employees a reasonable wage because it's the right thing to do. Not all of us are soulless monsters like the Drury's that only care about money. Those of us that aren't sociopaths don't enjoy taking advantage of people that have no other options, unlike the Drury's who are apparently content with working their employees to death and paying them so little money they can barely make rent much less have money left over for food or gas to get to work.
I don't want to obscenely rich like you. I'm well to do as it is and that's how I like it. Unlike the Drury scum, I don't feel the need to blow God knows how much money plastering my political views all over Cape, so I don't need tens of millions of dollars in the bank.
It's pretty funny how you Drury's have all your sanctimonious religious opposition to abortion all over the city, considering what Jesus himself had to say about the likelihood of a rich man getting into heaven. Your greed may make your short time on Earth enjoyable, but you're not going to like what you find waiting for you in eternity with that attitude.
Whatís your real beef with Drury? Couldnít pass the drug test? Or would they just not hire a jealous, bitter, judgmental prick like yourself? You obviously havenít worked for them, or if you have, didnít last because you donít have the work ethics that they so generously reward. Iíve worked for them twice in my life, in the 70ís, until I married and moved away, and then again after moving back in 2005. Had health problems not forced me to give up the job I would be there today. Many of the people I worked with in the 70ís are still there, and thereís a reason for that, and it certainly isnít because they feel they are being taken advantage of, or are working for soulless monsters. Quite the contrary. If you are an employee with good work ethics, good attendance, and are willing to work for that paycheck, rather than just expecting to be handed one, they reward you handsomely . Raises, bonuses, good insurance and retirement benefits, even for part time employees. How many companies do that? Very few. You are so off-base about these people that provide good jobs for so many, not just in Cape Girardeau, but all over. If you canít make a good living working for them, you better look in the mirror, because the fault is not with them. I was there in the beginning, and theyíve worked hard to earn every cent theyíve got, and treated people fairly all along the way.. Theyíve always contributed to so many good causes and encourage their employees to do the same. I may not share their politics or religion, but thatís really none of my business or yours. Theyíve got the right to put whatever they choose on a billboard theyíre paying for with their own hard earned money. So, get over it, loser!
