You are so correct. I'm married to an American white male, and we have not had kids yet. I plan to give birth to our own children, but I would also like to adopt a full blooded ethiopian child.

If you would rather Africans die than be adopted by Americans, because you are so scared that Americans just want to look good, who are you really watching out for? You could say that about Mother Teresa? And why are you labeling all white people together like that, it sounds racist. Not ALL white people go with "the flow".
If you think I sound a racist, then I must have learned it within your own society........which this can also be true to those black children.....Having said that you did not answer to the question I have presented to you. Again, repeating myself just in case you did not understand me, why go so far away to buy children from Africa, where they could have gotten them in this country much cheaper, since there is a need of placement for this babies.

There is a hell of a difference between the Johns who are adapting kids from Africa to that of Mother Teresa. In the first place, she went to India to take care of those as she put it "the poorest of the poor"........She did not go there to re-brand them in her image and culture........Mind you there is a hell of a difference, between the one who and to be in en Vogue of the rage of the time.

I'm Ethiopian with a white husband, why can't I adopt a full blooded ethiopian child?

I am with you, since at least that kid has someone to relate with, either linguistically or colour wise.

If one of the adopting parents is Ethiopian then things are different.

Yes des pes.........at least there will be someone of colour the child can identify with, rather than to be surrounded day in and day out with whites. I am hoping you have read some of the posting by these adapting parents, asking the meaning of the name of their adapted child, which should have been learned, while they were at the place they went to adapted........but then that to much of a work.....

After saying that in a situation where there is such a parent, it will make it easier to find the resource, when the time comes of acclimating the child with the other part of his culture

Actually, this could be a great way to get my husband to Ethiopia. I want to share my culture with him so bad.

I'm seriously thinking about adopting in the future.

If both of go the merrier it will be. Of course, since adapting a baby does take both spouses to come together in deciding, for sure you husband being with you at that time makes a decision made together. Goodluck

Yes this is one disturbing fact. Why Ethiopians and what is the link to trends set by some famous people shown in the Media holding a black baby in one hand, a brown baby in another and white baby on their backs. No one tells me why Australians, Europeans, US Americans don't adopt in their own countries. There is no shortage of African children or Afghans, or Iraqis, Indians, Whites, etc in USA, Europe or Australia. No one can explain this to me.
If these adaptations are influenced by trends then it shows you the depth of commitment by the adoptive parents. These must be people who are not far sighted, swayed by the current popular culture only, not knowing parenting children from a far and complicated culture like Ethiopia holds a risk and that it needs steadfast nerve that can shatter their beliefs and values to its core.

Adaptations in Ethiopia will have a long term negative effect on that community.

Instead of adopting 5 children why not pay for their education and the basic care, invest in schools, Hospitals, Industries and other things that would better the lives of the people so that their parents will not remain poor and unable to raise the kids.

In fact what happens now is more and more parents will drop babies like eggs and strive to seed them off to adaptations so as to reap the benefits when the kids grow up and come back to find their birth parents.

i think its disturbing having a white family adopting a black baby, i think its much more beneficial for a child to grow up in their own culture, it gives them more self-esteem and pride in themselves, i think mentally a much more healthier environment to grow up in.

Interesting point. People would have to immerse themselves into local culture immensely to even have an understanding..

Maybe it is a bit better if 'diasporan' Ethiopian Americans adopt, as long as the culture has been retained over here.

I'd rather see it that way if it has to happen.

I have to admit that I would love having a son and a daughter from over there. I would know how to take care of them.. not like Angelina with those girls'(the blond and the black) neglected hairstyles, etc.:(

Why don't they take those girls?? Angelina should have adopted a Latino(a) baby (maybe).

Adoption is adoption. It shouldn't matter where you adopt a child from if you do it for the right reason. I want to adopt but the state I live in won't let me adopt cause I live with a man that I am not married too, I shouldn't be forced to be married to be able to adopt. I already adopted privately and am trying to find another to adopt but it is hard. But by the grace of God I will prevail.. If people can adopt from overseas or from whereever than so be it.... Good luck to them..
