It's Chico's Tacos versus Chuco's Tacos.

El Paso's fast food institution has filed a lawsuit against a new Austin, Texas restaurant that makes a product very similar to their rolled taco signature menu item.

Why is the Mora family suing Chuco's tacos for?? Do they own the monopoly on rolled tacos in all of Texas?? No, they don't. The owner of Chuco's can and should sell rolled taco's if they want to, just like Roscoes has the right to sell greasy hamburgers that are similar to Chico's as well.

And why do they care what goes on in Central Texas anyway?? We like eating tacos too.

I can't believe the pettiness of these Chicos people here in El Paso. Probably just looking to make a quick buck, the Mexican way.

Chicos tacos is what makes El Paso unique and without it we wouldnt have much tourism and we wouldnt be known for nothing. The people reaping off the idea should come up with something original instead of just copying a restaurant, yet again Chicos tacos cant be copied.

So, you mean the only reason many tourists come to El Paso is to eat Chico's mystery meat rolled up into an old tortilla and plopped into a mystery sauce? We are doomed!

Let them be, chicos canīt afford to fight a lawsuit in austin. Besides anyone can buy those premade FLAUTAS from the people who make them. They are not made by chicos nor are exclusive to that crappy butt chicos. How about we talk about them famous el paso fur tacos instead!

its just an easier way for el pasoans to have the same flavor in austin. not only that, but i'm sure people in austin enjoy the taste. its not about the tacos, its about the name. Chuco's - Chico's AKA Trademark Infringement. no need to get your panties all in a bunch. =)

I like my Chico's and have eaten substitutes and nothing compares. Why? I don't know. Disgusting dirty buildings that can't possibly pass health inspections legitimately, but that's part of the corruption thread, and rude, but efficient counter help still don't deter me from getting my fix. The same is true of the famous Roscoe Burger. Grease soaked paper bag and all. I can feel my Cholesterol rising as I type. In conversations with one of the Mora's I asked when they were going to open one on the west side. He told me he guessed when one of the family members moved over there. It is strictly a family affair. As to the lawsuit, I support the Mora family, as the Chuco owner is from El Paso originally and Chuco's is clearly and infringement on the name as well. I wouldn't worry too much though, unless the recipe is the same, it just ain't Chico's.

Hey, Gerry -- only a moron would fail to realize that I intentionally misspelled the word because that's the way it's spelled in the profile photo. Now go eat your Chico's before you look any dumber.

Our goal at Chuco's Tacos is to provide Austinites with fresh, quality food. One of the many dishes we serve are Tacos Ahogados. We also serve classic tacos in either corn, flour or wheat tortillas along with burritos, tortas, quesadillas and burgers. We make everything fresh everyday including the famous Tacos Ahogados known by many El Pasoans to be be served by Chico's Tacos. We have never nor will we ever try to be like Chico's Tacos or have ours taste like theirs. We came up with our own recipe from scratch and serve what we think is a tasty dish. We cater to Austinites and so we also offer a vegetarian version as well as version in which the tacos are covered with jack cheese rather than cheddar cheese and are swimming in a green tomatillo sauce rather than tomato sauce. We have gotten many comments ranging from ours not being as good as Chico's, to being as good as Chico's to ours being better than Chico's. All comments by our clientele in Austin is much appreciated. As far as what people in El Paso think of us, we could really care less, that is not our market. Furthermore, the Tacos Ahogados originated in Mexico, not El Paso as many El Pasoans wrongly believe. Chico's made them popular and famous in El Paso but you can go across the border in Juarez and have them there. You can even order them in other restaurants in El Paso other than Chico's but they are not being sued. We don't know what Chico's recipe for their tacos is, nor do we care to know what it is, we believe ours is great. We also have absolutely no plans to ever serve the hot dog that is served by Chico's, whatever it may be. The only people making a fuss about this are El Pasoans living in El Paso, not former El Pasoans living in Austin. The former El Pasoans living in Austin have been so supportive and generous. Again, we have never compared ourselves to Chico's nor do we want to be compared to the them. Austinites consider us a restaurant that offers a new different dish to them, THAT WAS NOT INVENTED BY CHICO'S. I invite y'all to swing by Chuco's and enjoy some tacos and beer overlooking Shoal Creek.

We posted in this forum to clarify about what Tacos Ahogados are. Also to clarify that El Paso is not our market, Austin is in terms of us doing business and serving food there. You took our comment out of context and presented it as if we don't care what El Pasoans think in general. Some of the comments above ours are from people outside of El Paso so this would not strike a reasonable person as a forum exclusive to people living in El Paso. Your handle says your location is Spring, TX which is further than Austin from El Paso. As for the dimwit insult, well...

After posting that last comment, it appears the forum thinks that we are in Houston, which is not the case and give you the benefit of the doubt that this also occurred with your post. We are civil with our posts made anywhere on the internet and are open to discussions even if they turn passionate. There is no need for insults.

(Ha I moved to Austin 2 years ago)

This lawsuit is crap. To coin the rights to rolled tacos would be ridiculous. What ever happened to having a free market? I've actually met the owner and he was a nice guy. To try to rob him of his business is stupid especially in our monopolistic society. It's not about El Paso or tourism(which is the stupidest argument ever), it's about running a business.

Good luck Chuco! 512's got your back

I agree!!! The lawsuit is bogus and it doesn't stand a chance of winning. Guess the Mora family may also feel entitled to sue Delimex and all the other frozen forms of rolled tacos that you can buy at the grocery store as well?? And since when is Chico's a tourist spot? Former El Pasoans who visit may stop in to get their fix when they visit town, but that hardly constitutes calling Chico's a "tourist spot".

We live in Fort Hood which isn't very far away from Austin and we go there very frequently on weekends mostly so we appreciate any restaurants that cater to former El Pasoans. Go Chuco's!!! We stand behind you 100%!!

The problem is that the owners of Chuco's were high school friends of one of the Mora's sons at Cathedral High School.

Chuco's is still not Chico's.

And why do they care at all about what goes on in this part of Texas?? It's not as if Chuco's is going to take any business away from Chico's. It's not like anyone who lives in this area is actualy going to drive all the way to El Paso just to get some tacos from Chico's.
