Heaven forbid we go back and find anything catastrophic that Wag CEO's may have done or said years ago to their spouses, children or somebody they were pissed off with. I really don't know this story, nor do I care for it either, nobody's perfect.....let's not start looking through people's closets.
This was an easy way out for Wag to gain more shelf space for something else. It's not like Paula Deen products were hot items in our stores, Walgreens didn't lose anything by dumping her, they just gained space.

I can tell you it wouldn't have been long before my store clearanced out her damn chips at 75% off anyway. Racism or no racism, those things weren't selling lol.

Lol...Yep! People want Lays chips, Pringles, Wise, even Utz sells. Why you trying to get in a market that has a lock down? Lol.
I'm surprised that other cooking guy, the "Bam" guy is doing pretty well on his nuts....not great, but pretty good.

I think the Food Network wanted to get rid of Paula before this witch hunt happened. Let's see Paula was recently diagnosed with diabetes, lost weight, and most likely does not cook with a pound of butter anymore. This was just the excuse they need to fire her.( Who know may be it was the Food Network's people exploiting her choice of words 20- 30 years ago.)??? Just thinking????

I do get where you're coming from. I think a lot of people are confusing things.
If you have an issue with entertainers getting grammys, then your fight is with the music industry.
Paula Deen is the Brand, Martha Stewart is, the Brand.
Since she was the Brand and stated some negative comments, Walgreens felt they had to protect their image by quickly making a political statement before getting a thousand emails from customers threatening to never shop in their stores.
Some Rappers are a form of (negative) entertainment. They are entertaining a certain genre of music just like metal music, country, and other genres that are out.
Stop trying to bring non-related issues together.
When Walgreens sells products made by other questionable individuals then you can compare.
Here's a breakdown: Beyonce is the new image for Pepsi. Regardless of how you feel about Pepsi (whether you like it or not), she isn't exactly an angel. But, she isn't the brand, she is just the new face for marketing. Paula Deen is the image, the CEO, the company. They can replace Beyonce whenever they choose. Paula Deen, is and will always be Paula Deen products.

Are you a little slow in the head or something?
Black "entertainers", and I use that term loosely because none of them are very entertaining, constantly use racial slurs such as "whitey", "cracker", "white folks", and "honky" with ZERO consequences.
This has nothing to do with brands, this has to do with Paula Deen's life being trashed over the use of a word that brown people find 'offensive', yet nobody finds it offensive when brown people use terms like "cracker", "whitey", and "honky" that offend white people - instead we reward these people.
And if you honestly think this is just about 'branding', you must be high. Let's talk 'branding' though shall we.
FUBU clothes - you do know that the 'U' in 'FUBU' stands for 'us' as in For Us By Us as in black people. How is this not racist? What if the 'U' stood for 'us' as in WHITE people? How fast do you think the blacks would be bitching?
Black Entertainment Television - how is this not racist? What if we had a channel just devoted to white entertainment?
Ebony magazine - Blacks only, how is this not racist? What if someone tried creating a magazine devoted to white people?
Look how we even have to change the way we speak for brown people. How many blacks do you know go around saying stupid shit like 'the c-word' for "cracker" or "the h-word" for honky?
NONE.
Yet white people have to walk on eggshells around blacks saying shit like "the n-word" like we're all in kindergarten again because some black POS might get offended.
When are we going to start ruining chris rock's life and career for calling us "crackers", "whitey" or "honky"? Or any other black entertainer for that matter?
Oprah's made a few racist comments in her time and she's the "image, the CEO, and company" for everything with her name on it. How is she allowed to get away with it?
Nice comparing,,lets see, we got a channel, few magazines few blacks in tv, and lots of us "pos" ppl in sports vs,,,wait for it, you guys having the f$%$$ lockdown on s$%%$ since day one. I totally agree about racial slurs, I can call my own a slur, you call your own, and we keep it that way, but have you been pulled over like me for being brown, or have older white women lock their doors when you get out your car. We complain a bit too much, but trust me dude, you have no, I mean no f'ing idea what it means to be black. If Deen was a closet raciest, she knows it in her heart, and she deserves her due, if not she should be forgiven but the angry white we tired of black people bitchinh thing ain't working. Dye your damn skin, and walk in these shoes, and then come back and tell me, a "pos" brown guy what you think.

We've had the "lockdown...since day one" BECAUSE WE'RE THE ONES WHO BUILT THIS COUNTRY. Up until the civil war, we were the ones who were spilling all the sweat and blood building a country that is UNRIVALED by any other country in the world.
Look around you pal, everything in this country was designed and built by white people. You're welcome.
Now you brown people think you somehow have claim to all of it, and you've done NOTHING to deserve it. You all think just because you're black that you come from slave background - NOT TRUE. You also think that all white people were slave masters - again NOT TRUE. So don't even start the slavery bullshit, at the time of slavery only 10% of the entire population of the south we're considered 'slaves', most were indentured servants meaning they collected some form of payment for their services.
As for you being pulled over "for being brown" - that's a MYTH. So let's hear the story, tell us the entire story about what happened and BE HONEST - don't give us any bullshit about "why I was just driving along and a racist cop saw my color and pulled me over and I wasn't even doing anything wrong". You're not fooling anybody.
And I will not "dye my damn skin" or change who I am for ANYBODY, here's a better idea - how about you brown people quit acting like an animal that's just been turned loose from the zoo, get your shit together, stop thinking white people owe you a living, and contribute to society.
Then, maybe, you just might get the "respect" you all demand and THINK you deserve.
Agreed!

Totally 150% agree with ALTO!! But seriously how can they contribute to society when the majority of them take up our prison systems? That's not racist either. It's true. Statistics don't lie. African American men are the most populated group in prison. And they blame that on white people. Give me a break!! So sick of them pulling the race card. I'm not of white descent and I would never ever pull the race bullshit. It's old and over used. Get the hell over it.

Blind. Or stupid. Or racist themselves. That's the the sum and substance of the arguments of the Paul Deen defenders. The fact is that Paula Deen IS a racist. Not thirty years ago. Now. Or at least she was last October:

http://new.livestream.com/nytimes/PaulaDeen

The blind defenders don't have all the facts. To them I say, Just, for heaven's sake, LOOK. Read the complaint itself. Listen to the video.

The stupid defenders can't understand how a word can mean one thing when said by one person and another thing when said by another. To them I say: either educate yourself, or stop making comments because you're just displaying your stupidity to the world.

The racist defenders can't even see that Paula's "joke" in the video is cringe-worthy racist. To them I say: you're a dinosaur. You're a dying breed, either physically or socially or both. Your outrage over this is your death rattle, your swan song. Goodbye and good riddance.

Racist idiots shouldn't try to understand statistics. You can't make a corrolation between prison population and overall population. To even try is to betray both your stupidity and your racism.

Stop, okay? Just-- stop.

Two years ago I heard her o a show after she told story of her grandma and how she said grace before a meal. Then real quiet as Paula took sip of what she was cooking she said. "And you cant cook good without God".....

Which is funny because most of the best foods in world come from cultures without any Judaic religion......

This is getting old. They pull me over because I'm black, they look at me funny because I'm black. It couldn't be that you are playing your music so loud it can be heard on the next block, or that you wear your pants so low your underwear is visible to everyone, or any other number of things I have seen from both black and white these days.

It can't be anything you yourself did that may have caused the problem. I have seen bad on all sides of the fence. Do blacks get pulled over just because - probably, but so has my white nephew. It's not ok to use that word whether you are black or not. By using it you give the impression you are ok with it. If you are not, quit using it.

Above all, quit playing the race card. It's old, it's tired, and it's time to take responsibility for your own circumstances, and quit blaming your skin color.

just goes to show only what you think you know. Was 19 when I got pulled over, 2 white cops in a all white city. No one told me I shouldn't go there, was just shopping, naive I guess. No loud music, was crappy car. They took me out my car, searched it, me and then asked me "why I was in their f&%$ town anyway. Was let go eventually, but it scare the shit outta of me, and almost broke me dude,,,happen alot afterward too,,I don't use the race card, hate affirmative action, and is married to a beautiful white woman now, but racist exist still. Like I said, I used the word with people I know, and family, I don't call ppl craka or whitey, but I earn that right to use da n word, sorry you disagree,,cant speak for all blacks, but lump us all together, not kool homie,,,

The lazy Afronazi will never take responsibility...The decent black folk don't stand a chance due to the majority's lazy worthless ways.

I'm seriously considering the fact that there are people claiming to be black just to give the wrong impression here...
