The Smitty burger originated in 1968 at zarellis cafe on center and was known as the Jumbo burger...on French bread with onions cooked into the meat on a broiler. H.O. Smith was an uncle of mine..married to my mothers sister...and owned the Hilltop drive in on 38th st. He ran with the burger their and renamed it the Smitty burger. Not as good or tasty as the broiled one at Zarellis Restaurant.
