Thousands of Florida softshell turtles end up on dinner plates ...

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Hauled from canals and marshes around Lake Okeechobee , turtles arrive in the late afternoon at Jones Fish House, a corrugated metal structure on the Palm Beach County side of the lake.

Out turtles are "health food" compared to some of their exported products. BTW do our turtles have any mercury in them? That'd be ironic wouldn't it?

Some how I doubt these turtles are reproducing an equivelent of 15,000lbs a week.
Hey asian people, it does not matter what you eat, your peepee's are not going to grow. A couple thousand years of similar practice should have taught yooz a thing or two.

"Those people are going to be out of a job," she said, seated near a sign listing prices for frog legs, alligator, shrimp and catfish. "Those people work hard; sunburned from having to be outside for 12 hours."

Those people are for the most part illegal aliens. I mean, have you even been to Pahoke?

First; the manatee, then the Everglades deer, then the gopher turtle, and now the soft shelled turtle.
I have to give credit to SS for exposing the often deplorable treatment of these creatures by man.

As a child, my siblings and I caught a baby soft shelled turtle in the canal near our home. He was a nice turtle whom we finally released back into the water.
As adults,(if it's the bottle nosed species- I didn't read the article- want to sleep tonight), they can be quite nasty in temperament.

Well we could always hope that one of the turtles will bite the pinky off the creeps before they get killed. However, then the creep would sue the city, well you know the rest.
I'm still hoping for a salmonella/Ecoli infection to those that dare to eat them. Nature's revenge.

We had a lovely big soft shell turtle (bottle nosed) who would come up to see us when we sat on the seawall in the evenings. She or he was around for approximately 15 years.

Just about a month ago, the poor thing died and was caught under our dock. My husband fished it out said that somebody had obviously caught and harmed it. We all cried for that poor animal while we buried it. Who knew a turtle could have such a cute personality.

China! Them...AGAIN! These people are desperate to stuff flesh into their mouths at any cost, and they do not care what damage they do all over the world, either. They steal, rob, bribe and brake international laws all so that they can stuff themselves on the wildlife of other nations - they've practically eaten up all their own those greedy fools. Do NOT let them have any wildlife from North America, it's a disgrace to permit this and WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO HAND OVER WILDLIFE FOR PROFIT. No wildlife to the greedy, flesh-mongering Chinese nor anyone else! North American wildlife belongs IN North America!

In case no ones informed some people use catching and selling soft shell turtles for their only source of income. No turtles means no food or new shoes for their children. I am a child of a fisherman and know how this life style works. I would rather my dad catch turtles than sell dope on the streets. I know he bought a lot of school clothes, food, and payed alot of bills for my sister and I with turtle money. So next time you want to judge someones career think of how it affects the children of that worker. Also soft shell turtle is a great food source and is very safe to consume.
