Great cafeteria, but not traditional barbecue. Unfortunately, it is the best barbecue in Brownwood.

Underwood's is not real BBQ. It is steamed Argentina beef. It does have a unique taste but it's not traditional BBQ by any means. If you're going to call Underwood's real BBQ, then Taco Bell must serve real Mexican food. Real BBQ can be had at Sticks or Smitty's though some of you obviously don't agree or you have snobby "Austin" tastes or you're just burned out.

It does have a unique taste and it's deemed delicious by many of us ! Guess that's why so many of us don't mind waiting in line for the Underwood's Family "traditional" dishes !

I agree- it's not real BBQ and I've never understood why people always associate Brownwood with Underwoods. I guess everyone has to pass by it when driving through town. Smitty's BBQ is way better. Underwoods makes me actually sick after I eat it.

I've enjoyed Underwoods dishes for over 40 years. It's BBQ in my book ! I also like the brisket at Smitty's. Maybe it's Underwoods obvious and well deserved popularity that is allegedly making you "sick" bwood !

I love to eat at Underwoods as well as Smitty's both serve really good BBG and I don't mind the fact that they each have a different flavor! That keeps it interesting! However,..my oldest son once worked there and I went to pick him up. He wasnt waiting outside so I went in to let him know that I was there. As I walked through the kitchen ,..the first thing I noticed was the slippery greasyh floor! I had to slow down and walk more carefully so that I wouldnt fall! It was like trying to walk on ice. The next thing I noticed was that there was a big pile of shredded cabbage on one long table,..there was also a lot of poeces on the floor and they had obviously been tracked around because there was peices of the cabbage all over the place! Then I saw on a table at the far wall, a huge pile of meat! Flying over and around this huge pile of raw meat was at least two dozen flies! On top of all that was a pungent sweaty odor that made me want to get the hell out of there! Which is exactly what I did as soon as I could!
Do I still eat there you ask? Well of course! I like the food and I beleive in the ten second rule! Plus,.. heat kills germs!
I just wish that their cobler tasted as good after you reheat it at home as it does when it comes to you hot out the stove. Unfortunately you have to eat it as soon as you buy it because if you wait till the next day,..the juice in the cobler turns to a type of jell and it taste nasty as hell!
But Underwoods is still one of my favorite restaurants! Gotta love them hot rolls! MMMMM! Good!

My question is what is poeces? Did you mean to say feces?
Does anyone know the recipe for making their cobbler? A cobbler is very easy to make but the thick flaky crust is not. That's the part I'm trying to find out about. It probably comes frozen and they just cook it but I'm not sure. I know for a fact that all those "tasty" vegetables come in big cans.

Have you checked over at "The Brownwood Store" (retail) located in the Tax Payer Subsidized Chamber of Commerce offices which is located in the Tax Payer Subsidized Train Depot ? Maybe you can develop a Dry Rub in Houston and get them to retail it out of "The Brownwood Store" ! Good luck.

I don't understand why you would respond to my previous post like this. I don't have anything against popular restaurants and I did not even indicate anything along those lines. Why so defensive?

All I said was an agreement with the original thread post that I don't care for the food at this place. The meat is not good, the vegetables taste like they are canned and/or way overcooked, the cobbler does not have fresh fruit in it.

Regarding your post= I eat at lots of popular restaurants all the time. Sorry if I offended you by saying I don't like the food ad Underwoods. Have a nice day.
