Fast-food workers in NYC stage strikes, rallies

Jul 29, 2013 Full story: The Republic 570

Workers at McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's restaurants across New York walked out Monday in a one-day strike to demand better pay and the right to unionize, calling for minimum wage to more than double from $7.25 to $15 an hour and the end to what activists called "abusive labor practices."

You're just a mean punk. The kind you just want to slap around.
You are as likely to succeed at that as you are at obtaining gainful employment above the poverty level.

Don't sweat these fools Joe - the ones with the biggest mouths always have the least, and look down on others only HERE because they can remain anonymous, but not one of these idiots would go into one of those establishments and say this crap to ANY of those workers faces, not ONE!
Always easy to be an internet warrior.
And you made a valid point before Joe - a friend of mine, who's son graduated with a degree in chemistry, is currently working at a Starbucks. Many stories very similar to this one.
That your friend has a son working at Starbucks with a college degree means very little to the discussion. Many factors are missing from your story,... perhaps this person does not present well, or was a poor student with marginal grades. Many factors other than just a college degree go in to obtaining gainful employment.

Also a consideration. I see many of these recent graduates come out of school and expect to be paid 90, 100, 150k/year. Without working their way up. They fully expect to be paid top dollar and be in management out the gate. If they can't get it they are not interested. So they opt for minimum wage at the local Starbucks, obviously a waste of a good higher education. Their too damm stupid to take the 50-60k/yr job and EARN the big money and management positions.

So when did the jobs at McDonald's become a career choice at minimum wage?? When Ronald Reagan changed us from a manufacturing, innovative, technical society to a service society, by setting up the systems which allowed millions to enter legally, and millions more illegally, while the jobs were shipped overseas. All the wealth went to the very rich, and the rest of us got screwed. If you want the jobs to come back, we have to change the system back to what it was before Reagan destroyed the USA.

What blatant stupidity on your part. Who would opt out of a 50 - 60K job to work at Starbucks?

So, in your warped mind, these recent college graduates feel that if they don't receive the 100K jobs, they would opt to punish themselves for a much lower wage job?

ARE YOU NUTS????

You idiot - they have to start repayment of their student loans 6 months after the graduate - and in your mind, they would rather punish themselves and struggle to repay their debt.

No wonder you keep your location hidden.

You are wrong. Reading your insensitive comments leads one to question your humanity. Not only do you wish to deny opportunities to low-income workers, you want to deny them social services that they qualify for. It appears you wish to punish people for being poor, to the point that threatens their life.

The jobs ain't coming back, but,if you want them back you're gonna have to invent a time machine and halt technology as we know it.
People are now capable of creating the products a half a world away with an unskilled, underpaid work force subsidized by Governments without crippling regulations and taxes for a fraction of the price unionized Americans once did.
The only thing at this point thats gonna boost the economy with decent paying jobs is to drill baby drill.
The only lesson we learned as a nation through it all is to dumb down the masses.

Face it Joe ... You've been called out on your utter lack of personal responsibility in your life, and instead of looking to yourself for the reason for your failures ... Yet again ... you attempt to blame someone else.

Question Joe's personal responsibility .... the person must be lacking in humanity

Tell Joe to get an education ... the person has no empathy for Joe's tough life.

State that only skilled workers deserve skilled pay ... the person is attempting to deny Joe opportunity.

Your excuses are endless, however it is odd that you claim that you work for poverty wages yet have time to kill here on the internet instead of attempting to find something better.

Oh wait ... I must be attempting to deny you leisure time from your hard day at work. HAHAHAHAHA

You are the picture of the American loser.

We can only hope and wait for the day that the Joe's of America working at McD's are replaced by robotic process and consumer touch screens.

But fear not Joe .... they will still need porters to clean the restroom.

I've seen plenty of these recent graduates turn down a $50-60k job because they believed they deserved more. This is for sitting on an IT Helpdesk for crissakes!!!!!! That's damm good pay! But no, these entitled graduates today expect to be on Tier 3 or as Data Architects pulling down a minimum of $100k, with no experience. And yes they DO turn those jobs down, because they DO feel entitled for a better higher paying job because they have a degree.
One of our Helpdesk staff has a MASTERS DEGREE!!!! She is smart as a tack and I can't wait until she is more experienced to move her up in the division.
So you can take your denial, and lack of knowledge, and shove it a$$wipe. You obviously have no fcking clue what you are talking about, and more blatantly obvious have never hired anyone before.
Verpiss Dich!
Not my denial moron, but yours.

I work in the IT field myself - and know full well what desk help vs. on site A.E. in the I.T. field receive. So yeah, you are FOS. No question about that.

And no, I've yet to see any college graduate succumb to a low level job out of anger at not receiving 100K - in your little mind, anything's possible - the real world is a much different picture.

You'll be shocked when you wake from your self induced coma.

Your "poorness" is accomplished by your lack of effort to do otherwise. If a life is threatened, you must be to blame.
The same opportunities that were presented to me are still presented to you. Your social services that you have are given to you through hard-working taxpayers' efforts, and you're welcome.

Your comments are totally insensitive to those that strive to make something of themselves. Shame on you. You apparently have no concerns for people who want to make their lives a success.

You can question my humanity all you want; I'll question your abilities, your intellect and your enthusiasm for success.

If one can afford to do. Many here, especially the one from Kent, Ohio, are simply FOS. Average wages of less than $30,000.00 for a family of 4, medium house values at $140,000.00, and they expect someone to believe they paid over $11,000.00 for a private school?

Come on - we can all do the math on this one!

Tell ya what azzhole - stop blocking your location - I'll tell you point blank whether it's you that's FOS or not.

BTW imbecile - I have a separate computer in a private office not on a network - if you actually worked in the IT field, your azz would have been busted for going on these sites while at work a long time ago!

That's even if you actually have a job - highly doubtful.

I know it is probably surprising to you but not everyone in this country is struggling to earn a decent living. The average is just that ... represents the middle of the earning curve. Just because your trapped at the low end of the curve does not mean that the poster from Kent is.

Your math appears to be based on the same flawed logic that you use to justify paying the unskilled 15.00 an hour.

Big talk from the obvious cable puller, who appears to know very little about network security and monitoring. Large corporations monitor bandwidth usage and block the sites which they do not want employees to visit. The only organizations that actually monitor individuals are little mom and pop companies,... too many seats to monitor in a real company.
