The Hilker's own Village Pizza, Schmidt's Aisle 2 and Sweet Peaks Cupcakes not The Country Store as reported in an earlier article. They managed it but I wonder how much damage has been done there?

..... And they were not made of rubber! Paper isn't elastic! Seriously, contrary to popular beliefs it's not the employers who pay the employees, but it's the customers who do that. If there isn't enough buying then there isn't enough money coming in to pay employees with, nor, perhaps, even taxation collectors. BOO-HOO!
Thank goodness

You are in Canada (?)...stay there and leave our Republic alone. We do not operate as socialistic society and employers do pay employees. If there are not enough customers to support the payroll then employees are let go. Geez

..... Thank goodness we agree. The rules of mathematics are the same in all countries, and if there isn't enough money coming in, not even magicians can have enough to pay all of their employees, if any, eventually.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not employers or customers who pay the employees, it is the bank, who is then reimbursed. However, if there is not enough money in the account the check is drawn on, the bank wisely refuses to honor the check, unless someone at the bank agrees to honor it.

Also, contrary to popular belief, Schmitechengrzenbrgr is not a real name. This is the reporter's dad, and this whole thing about Schmidtzs' being locked up is nonsense. I had a delicious rubber check bagel there this morning.

in Estes Park. Don't know about Loveland. You could not have had a bagel in the EP Schmidt Bakery. How do you know it is the reporters father and not a real person? You have a screw loose my friend.

if the money isn't there you DON't write checks knowing there are insufficient funds, that;s what constitutes deliberate fraud and should be prosecuted, the unknowing employees receive those checks with the trust that they are able to cash them . Seriously canada ! so should the employees go after the customers for the paychecks, or do you accept that the businesses were poorly run, they overspent, with held payroll taxes, kept that money also, more fraud. Is that how they do business in canada?

the customers just pay the employees directly. The paychecks are always good. Here's the deal. If you work at a bakery that has already been shut down twice, you had better believe you are going to get screwdrivered a third time. Work at a national firm, like that one place that sells bread that everyone loves, Wonder Bread or Hostess or whatever. Now that is a company that is good to the last drop.

Is that what all the coverage over the past few months was about? That Hostess was going to declare bankruptcy if they couldn't work out a deal with the unions? How could I have completely missed this, and coincidentally chosen it as the one baked-goods company in America NOT to use as an example to prove my point?

Are you a complete and total moron? Do you not recognize sarcasm, irony, inside jokes, humorous asides, anything?
Sure

For you to completely miss that I purposefully chose Hostess as an example of a stellar baked good company shows how primitive your humor is. You are an infant when it comes to understanding jest or witticisms. Perhaps if I told a joke about poopy or pee-pee? Would that cause you to roll out of your high chair?
