#1 is still there: the northwest corner of East Main & US1 - a must-stop-in for all aficionados.

Thats kinda special though, because that meatball parmesan does come from the very first subway in the world. I would just remind the wife of that.

The original Subway sandwich was the best. The bread had a hard crust with a soft middle. If my memory serves me correctly came from Madison Bakery. The bread today is doughy. They used to use the best ingrediants. Real olive oil (50/50 mix with veg. oil) Real Genoa salami real crab meat. Compared to the original Petes sub, todays sandwich is garbage.

Some of the pop-up adds drive me right off the website- it is so annoying- and the advertisers lose, and the website loses. But 'dumb as possible' must be the mantra at every newspaper these days. I mean, there even are grammatical errors in the headlines.

I believe it was east main st. I recall only 4 stores. 1-east main. Park ave. and north main all in Bpt. The last was in Stratford Barnum ave. They then opened one in Fairfield then 2 on Whaley ave New Haven.

The very first could have been near UB. Frank Deluca was a student there.
