Do away with the FREE meals as well.
Teach the kids to brown bag their lunches and have the parent(s) fix their breakfast.
POWER to the parents and return responsibility where it belongs.!

Point of Clarification:"Free" lunches are subsidized by the government and are intended for those who are low-income or otherwise qualify. Given that I have spent many years volunteering in public schools, I can tell you that there are children who come to school without breakfast, who need the subsidized food program. If there are hungy children at school, all children suffer. There are homeless students attending school, as well as students from group homes, and there are families who just don' have the means. What people, in this case, parents, should do and actually do are distinctly separate issues. The bigger issue is raising lunch prices in an economy that is seeing many people already tightening their belts. It may be that more kids are on the subsidized lunch program if the economy continues to decline anyway.

Manning, what you say is very true. Some of these kids depend on their school meals. In some cases its the only nutritious meal they will get all day. We spend billions in this country on un necssary programs. Why can't we find a way to feed underprivileged kids.

This may be true for some kids, but unfortunately there are just as many if not more that DO NOT need the free lunch.Their parents have them get it because it is FREE!Some of these parents lie about their income-look at the cars of the parents when they come to pick up their kids.

I'm a school lunch Director and while I agree that there are those that abuse the system and parents should shoulder the responsibility for providing for their kids, the fee/reduced lunch program provides a service that must be offered. The majority of families now are 2 income and time in the mornings doesn't always allow for breakfast; even 2 incomes cannot make ends meet in some areas. To eliminate free lunches would keep the kids that truly need it from getting the education they need-it has been proven that kids are more productive when their bodies are fueled correctly. if you have those that lie on apps and appear to be able to afford luxuries your FSD isn't doing their job.

First off parents need to be responsible for their kids, otherwise don't have them. Both parents work? Here is an idea, get up early and fix your kids lunch. They are your responsibility.
Second, I've volunteered at my daughters school, and the amount of food wasted is incredible. Most of these kids do not even eat the food.
Personal responsibility....it's a fairy tale anymore.

All this talk of food has got my tummy rumbling. Anyone here know if the Dollar Tree still sells sim-i-nin candy? Stops them rumbles! As my daddy used to say. Speaking of daddy, I miss him from time to time. Heck, I forgot where I planted him. We were fairly certain he wasn't breathing when we poured the concrete, but now I'm not so sure. Is CPR effective on an old codger been dead about 25 years? Ah, forget it. I'm gonna go look for some sim-i-nin.
