Well atleast most Marshall County residence have class and you couldn't find good people like the ones in Marshall. Other counties are full of black and hispanics which hmm lets see whats the crime rate in those counties? ah yeah a lot higher than the crime rate in Marshall.

Marshall County is beautiful with the lakes and such, but that is as far as it goes. I checked the school website and it shows that there is was one black person in the school? But if you look further with testing, it shows that scores for blacks are "not applicable" meaning they probably aren't there.

As far as racism...it is alive and well. The last game between Marshall and Tilghman was sad. The adults were yelling out racial slurs and had made hateful racial signs. I couldn't believe it. It didn't seem possible that this could happen in this day and age. Can't wait for Tilghman to whip them Monday night in the regionals. What a sad shame for the county.

Well sweetie, I was at the last Marshall and Tilghman game. Funny how there were black people sitting in the student section with all the Marshall County kids. And I don't remember anyone saying anything racial except that the Tilghman people were saying how MC hates black poeple. Hmm funny doesn't that sound like Paducah people are being racist to Marshall County people. I rest my case. Stop trying to start stuff and stay on your own city's forum.

I had the distinct pleasure of visiting your town this past weekend and was appauld at the pre-civil war mentality that was displayed on your main street. I do believe in all the freedomes that are in our constitution, and now chose to display mine. I do not know who the city civic leaders are but you give minorities a very valid arguement that racism is not dead. Even the out of town vendors as well as out of town visitors were shocked at the number of vehicles displaying the Rebel flag! What message are you sending, and what does this have to do with "Tater Day"? I saw flags with Larry the Cable Guy's "Get-R-Done" motto on them. Has he endorsed this, or is it that someone in your community has taken this into their own hands to validate the supreme racism that infest your town? As a white American I am appauled that there are not any decent citizens in Marshall county or Benton, who would do the right thing in this matter. I will not darken your streets, and I will make this matter known to all those who will listen till this matter is corrected. How would you feel if you were black and took your family to "Tater Day"?
first off not everyone who goes to Tater Day is racist and the rebal flag is not a sign of racism either. For your information the rebal flag was a flag designed by a troop of the south's army. Granted that the south wanted slavery it does not mean that today this flag is a sign of racism, if you had ever atended a history class you would know that the rebel flag is called the stars and bars and brought hope to those men who had none. Maybe before you go judgeing what you dont understand you should look it up. Or maybe attend a history class an listen to where kentuky stood in that war.

If I were black, and my father said "Hey, let's have a family fun day, pack a lunch and go to Tater Day!" I would think that he was crazy. Why would a black family even want to go celebrate Tater Day. Sorry, but the last thing I would want to do is spend a day in Marshall County!

Anyone remember when the citizens of Marshall County ran the Ft. Campbell band out of town with their racist remarks directed at a few band members?

I thank God I don't live in that dump of a town/county. It's sad I have to work there. I have NEVER seen such a high concentration of morons as I do in Marshall County.

What's wrong with what has been said? Racist hicks abound in Marshall County. They run around with their rebel flags waving, jamming to rap music. Town sluts with ten gallons of makeup caked on make their way up and down the Tater Day area looking for another man to blow for a corn dog. A county with a school system that emphasizes sports over academics, with proof of the education system written out by "I believe it" as quoted above. A county of walking mouth-breathers, many of whom have never left the area to experience the outside world. Yes, some stereotypes are TRUE!!!

It's absolutely hillarious how everyone singles out Marshall county ppl like they're infested with some rare disease or something. Let me be the one to tell ya, I lived there for a long time and I've now been in a neighboring county for 6 years.....I think someone needs to take their own advice and "leave the area to experience the outside world". I just watched 2 girls walk straight down broadway yesterday, both in bikini tops, one in bikini bottoms and one in a skirt. The wind blew just right and there was very little under the skirt to hide anything! I've seen some toothless, no-bath taking, backwoods, illiterate creatures in this area more-so than in Marshall county. And as far as racism, y'all don't know the half of it!

I grew up in this town. I was not ever taught to be racist in any way, but I do understand that the town has that reputation. I now live in a different state, my best friends are composed of black, asian and jewish. My very best friend can trace his roots back to the plantation from which he came. While in respect for my friends I would not waive the Stars and Bars, I probably have an old flag in the house some where.

The stars and bars which was the battle flag of the Army of Tennessee. Ky was a neutral state and many from Marshall County served under this flag, as well as the Union flag. Historically the flag has nothing to do with racism. Many people who have not really studied American history believe in error the flag was related to racism.

Looking deeper into the history of the county, during the 60s and 70s there were three high schools in the county. North Marshall, South Marshall and Benton. Each had a mascot those being the Jets, Rebels, and Indians. With the Stars and Bars being the flag for the South Marshall Rebels.

Are there minorities living in the City of Benton and Marshall county. Yes, even in the 60s and 70s minorities lived in both. Have I ever seen a racist act against any of these people no. Have I heard slurs, yes.

So.. here is the thing. In deference to people I care for I would never want to hurt them in any way by displaying the Stars and Bars. Is displaying the Stars and Bars Racist, no. Are there racist people in Benton and Marshall County yes, are they in the Majority no.

In the mid 70's one of the Grand Dragons of the KKK moved into the county. He did not live there long, as he was not welcomed as he tried to build the org there.

Go to Tater Day, Big Singing, or the the A and I fair. If you treat people the way you want to be treated; you will have no problems regardless of your race.

Benton is not a "crap hole town" Now all of the people who live there are racist, don't judge the town just by what some people think.
