During my time in WNC my wife and I enjoyed the delicious burritos at Rio Burrito. To this day they are still the best burritos I have had.

How wonderful! This kind of food is a detriment to our society. These companies are profiting of the poor by serving food that only makes people even more obese and unhealthy, we need to run all these companies out of buisness.

Company? What company? Tom is a great guy, and Andrea sure is missed. They both started the business here and have invested their hearts and souls in its success. Find another forum, idiot....this isn't the place.

To 'Pacifist':

I have written two long posts elsewhere at topix.net in support of Tom and his LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED Rio Burrito restaurants....and, I know,'typo's happen'. However ...your 'buisness' is an interesting use of our 'Americanized English' language.

To Georgie....( and Stypen...and so many other LOCALS)....the word you are looking for is "MAROON"....A word saved for situations where the moron in question is so utterly moronic ...that MORON just won't do.

May God Bless THE BEST 'Burrito Purveyor' in WNC!....and

...May God Bless 'Pacifist's' home of Texarkana,TX.(I do believe Jerry Reed & Burt Reynolds might need to return there....with a few palettes of DICTIONARIES, BIBLES, and MENUS ...FROM LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED RESTAURANTS).

Tried it once. Nothing there but Left Coasters, Left Over Hippies, Lessjie and Sodomites.
Glad to see the dump go. Bring on the burgers!

I can understand you being able to spot hippies on sight, but how precisely did you ascertain that there were "sodomites" and "left coasters" in the restaurant? Did you poll the customers? Did asking strangers about their sexual or political habits, or there places of origin give you any sort of sexual pleasure? I ask because I can't imagine why else someone would be so hung up on this matter, so you'll have to illuminate it for me. Also, what in the hell is a "lessjie"?

Surely you aren't from Asheville? If you are you must be blind and deaf, otherwise you would see how they flaunt their homosexuality and hear how they run their loud mouths.
Surely I am from Asheville. I was born in Fletcher, and I live in Hendersonville. I've never lived more than 20 miles away from downtown Asheville in my entire life, and I know plenty of gay men who are extremely masculine, as well as more than a few lesbians who like frilly, lacy things and lipstick.

I realize this may come as a shock to you, but you really can't judge a book by its cover. Sure, bigotry makes life easier because you can dismiss entire groups or culture outright and not have to strain yourself giving thought to human complexity. Tragically though, bigotry is just a synonym for stupidity.

Perhaps, if this concept troubles you, you should stay inside with all the doors and windows locked and covered, the TV and radio off, a bag over your head, and a vicious dog to chase off the newspaper carrier, so as not to encounter anything that might inject some reality into your world view. I know you'll be happier that way, and likely we here in the world outside will be too. Everyone wins!

OK so you are a Sodomite/Lesbo lover who is from Asheville. was born in Fletcher, live in Hendersonville. and have never lived more than 20 miles away from downtown Asheville in your entire life. That doesn't change the fact that Sosomites and Lesbos are perverts who flaunt their perversions in public in Asheville.
Name calling? Is that the best you can do?

Wow, you really are WEIRD. I think you must have been the Baptist minister who tried to feel me up as a kid. Yeah, and it was in Buncombe County as well.

Nice to see you flaunt your ignorace online.

BTW: Tom, love you food, and very sorry for the passing of Andrea.

I am deeply saddened to hear about this!!! I know Tom and knew Andrea personally as I ate a Rio Burrito quite regularly when they opened. They were also regular guests of mine at Carrabba's, as I put myself through college. I can't think of a more compatible couple and Andrea will be sadly missed. I don't know what Asheville will do without a downtown burrito classic such as Rio Burrito. Others can compete with RB but no one can compare to the love you get from the atmosphere they have.

Tom, I hope you read this and know you are in in my prayers! I send you love and well wishes to heal your heart and mend your soul.

P.S.(It saddens me that comments and slurs are being made about Asheville and/or burritos for that matter, while we have thousands of Americans dying in Iraq--who would LOVE a burrito right now. Let's get our priorities in order people! We are losing an fine establishment and have already lost a beautiful soul.....For those of you who are bitching--FIND ANOTHER SOAPBOX TO STAND ON!!!)

Darn it, I thought you were going to spend today sealing your windows and buying that dog, not to mention picking out just the right bag. Make sure it's not plastic.

Before we ......(the VAST majority of posters about Rio Burrito)....dismiss the erudite and amazingly attuned 'Straighten up'...there might be an UP SIDE to his continuing blather, bigotry & bear scat.

Many folks from other parts of the world .... regularly click on the 'Asheville' BLOGS ....to see if what is posted is 'cyber-ink' worthy.

Perhaps ...a few ...will be so disgusted by such inanity and lack of mind and heart ...that they will pass on plans to MOVE HERE ...thus..reducing the on-going damage caused by too many people searching for too few green spaces and out-of-the-way pristine and quiet places.(I'd list MY ... TOP 10...but...well...you know...)

Hey 'Straighten up'.....KEEP IT UP! I am sure 'The Golden Rule' is not among your 'words to live by'...but as long as you're at it...why not tell us all ...why it is that puppies and kittens are part of a 'vast liberal conspiracy' to make children fall in love with animals ...and prefer walks and outdoor play to whatever it is that you watch on whatever network you 'enjoy'. Such 'animal love' is bound to lead to unspeakable depravity of a kind that must make you wretch ...(and then...secretly....wipe yer willy)...and then towel off...head for the nearest sanctuary of 'your kind'...whoever or whatever they might be...and where ever they might go to dine and stew...and gather in groups of one to ponder the 'meaning of their dark and hollow and loveless lives'.

OOPS....I might have given some folks a bit of hope that Asheville IS a livable and lovable small city...with mostly....wonderful, thoughtful and welcoming people.

DARN....I may have said too much.

*****

HAPPY NOVEMBER ALL...now DO THE RIGHT THING..and VOTE FOR LOCAL & SUSTAINABLE & EARTH FRIENDLY people who will PROTECT OUR NATURAL RESOURCES...and ...and...and say Viva Rio!!! Carpe' Burrito!

<sigh> ....time for some chips,'Nerve Gas'-ish habanero pepper sauce...and a BIG GLASS of ICED TEA.

Cheers to 'most' of you.....
