Bill Clinton: Obama’s an ‘amateur’

By CARL CAMPANILE
May 11, 2012

Bill Clinton thought so little of President Obama — mocking him as an “amateur”— that he pressed his wife last summer to quit her job as secretary of state and challenge him in the primaries, a new book claims,

“The country needs you!” the former president told Hillary Clinton, urging her to run this year, according to accounts of the conversation included in Edward Klein’s new biography of Obama.

The title of Klein’s explosive, unauthorized bio of Obama,“The Amateur”(Regnery Publishing), was taken directly from Bill Clinton’s bombshell criticism of the president, the author said.
RUN, BABY, RUN! A new book says Bill Clinton implored wife Hillary last summer to challenge President Obama.

“Barack Obama,” Bill Clinton said, according to book excerpts,“is an amateur.”

Obama and the Decline of the American Civil Liberties Movement

OBAMA: A DISASTER FOR CIVIL LIBERTIES

By Jonathan Turley

With the 2012 presidential election before us, the country is again caught up in debating national security issues, our ongoing wars and the threat of terrorism. There is one related subject, however, that is rarely mentioned: civil liberties.

Protecting individual rights and liberties — apart from the right to be tax-free — seems barely relevant to candidates or voters. One man is primarily responsible for the disappearance of civil liberties from the national debate, and he is Barack Obama. While many are reluctant to admit it, Obama has proved a disaster not just for specific civil liberties but the civil liberties cause in the United States.

Civil libertarians have long had a dysfunctional relationship with the Democratic Party, which treats them as a captive voting bloc with nowhere else to turn in elections. Not even this history, however, prepared civil libertarians for Obama. After the George W. Bush years, they were ready to fight to regain ground lost after Sept. 11. Historically, this country has tended to correct periods of heightened police powers with a pendulum swing back toward greater individual rights. Many were questioning the extreme measures taken by the Bush administration, especially after the disclosure of abuses and illegalities. Candidate Obama capitalized on this swing and portrayed himself as the champion of civil liberties.

However, President Obama not only retained the controversial Bush policies, he expanded on them.

Obama suggests economic fundamentals are strong, an argument John McCain once made

By Associated Press,
Published: June 8

President Barack Obama acknowledges the outlook has darkened some, but suggests the fundamentals of the American economy are sound and will get better if voters just stand with him.

That sounds a little like the argument made in 2008 by Republican nominee Sen. John McCain.

McCain’s claim of a fundamentally sound economy — at a time when the financial system was nearing collapse, joblessness was climbing and the housing market cratering — was ridiculed by then-candidate Obama and congressional Democratic leaders.

It was even challenged by many Republicans.

In fact, the economy continued to worsen throughout 2008 and sank further in 2009.

Obama said Friday he wanted to “make sure that we continue to have a strong, robust recovery.” While some sectors remain weak,“keep in mind that the private sector has been hiring at a solid pace over the last 27 months,” he told reporters.

That’s far from the bleak economic landscape painted daily by Republican challenger Mitt Romney. In St. Louis on Thursday, Romney accused the president of a failure of “tragic proportion.”

“Record numbers of Americans have lost their jobs or just disappeared from the workforce or could only find part-time jobs,” Romney said.

The Dysfunctional Obama Disaster

Obama failed to close Guantanamo Bay as promised. He continued warrantless surveillance and military tribunals that denied defendants basic rights. He asserted the right to kill U.S. citizens he views as terrorists. His administration has fought to block dozens of public-interest lawsuits challenging privacy violations and presidential abuses.

But perhaps the biggest blow to civil liberties is what he has done to the movement itself. It has quieted to a whisper, muted by the power of Obama’s personality and his symbolic importance as the first black president as well as the liberal who replaced Bush. Indeed, only a few days after he took office, the Nobel committee awarded him the Nobel Peace Prize without his having a single accomplishment to his credit beyond being elected. Many Democrats were, and remain, enraptured.

It’s almost a classic case of the Stockholm syndrome, in which a hostage bonds with his captor despite the obvious threat to his existence. Even though many Democrats admit in private that they are shocked by Obama’s position on civil liberties, they are incapable of opposing him.

Idiots.

The Horror of Obama

It looks more like a cult of personality. Obama’s policies have become secondary to his persona.

Ironically, had Obama been defeated in 2008, it is likely that an alliance for civil liberties might have coalesced and effectively fought the government’s burgeoning police powers. A Gallup poll released this week shows 49% of Americans, a record since the poll began asking this question in 2003, believe that “the federal government poses an immediate threat to individuals’ rights and freedoms.” Yet the Obama administration long ago made a cynical calculation that it already had such voters in the bag and tacked to the right on this issue to show Obama was not “soft” on terror. He assumed that, yet again, civil libertarians might grumble and gripe but, come election day, they would not dare stay home.

This calculation may be wrong. Obama may have flown by the fail-safe line, especially when it comes to waterboarding. For many civil libertarians, it will be virtually impossible to vote for someone who has flagrantly ignored the Convention Against Torture or its underlying Nuremberg Principles. As Obama and Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. have admitted, waterboarding is clearly torture and has been long defined as such by both international and U.S. courts. It is not only a crime but a war crime. By blocking the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for torture, Obama violated international law and reinforced other countries in refusing investigation of their own alleged war crimes. The administration magnified the damage by blocking efforts of other countries like Spain from investigating our alleged war crimes. In this process, his administration shredded principles on the accountability of government officials and lawyers facilitating war crimes and further destroyed the credibility of the U.S. in objecting to civil liberties abuses abroad.

In time, the election of Barack Obama may stand as one of the single most devastating events in our history for civil liberties. Now the president has begun campaigning for a second term. He will again be selling himself more than his policies, but he is likely to find many civil libertarians who simply are not buying.

The Idiot

President Obama’s decision to deliver a major economic speech in Ohio tomorrow amounts to an attempted campaign reset after almost two weeks of unrelenting bad news for the incumbent and his party.

Thursday’s speech is the second time in the past week (or so) that Obama has tried to change the subject or, at the very least, get the conversation back on more favorable ground for him.

His press conference last Friday — in which he uttered the now famous/infamous line that “the private sector is doing fine”— made things worse not better.

What a Moron.

Our Divisive President

Barack Obama promised a new era of post-partisanship. In office, he's played racial politics and further split the country along class and party lines.

By PATRICK H. CADDELL
DOUGLAS E. SCHOEN

During the election campaign, Barack Obama sought to appeal to the best instincts of the electorate, to a post-partisan sentiment that he said would reinvigorate our democracy. He ran on a platform of reconciliation—of getting beyond "old labels" of right and left, red and blue states, and forging compromises based on shared values.

President Obama's Inaugural was a hopeful day, with an estimated 1.8 million people on the National Mall celebrating the election of America's first African-American president. The level of enthusiasm, the anticipation and the promise of something better could not have been more palpable.

And yet, it has not been realized. Not at all.

Rather than being a unifier, Mr. Obama has divided America on the basis of race, class and partisanship. Moreover, his cynical approach to governance has encouraged his allies to pursue a similar strategy of racially divisive politics on his behalf.

A Divisive POS: Barack Hussein Obama

Mmmmmmmmmm!
Mmmmmmmmmm!
Mmmmmmmmmm!

The president had a unique opportunity to focus on overarching issues of importance to whites and blacks. He has failed to address the critical challenges. He has not used his bully pulpit to emphasize the importance of racial unity and the common interest of poor whites and blacks who need training, job opportunities, and the possibility of realizing the American Dream. He hasn't done enough to address youth unemployment—which in the white community is 23.2% and in the black community is 39.9%.

Mr. Obama has also cynically divided the country on class lines. He has taken to playing the populist card time and time again. He bashes Wall Street and insurance companies whenever convenient to advance his programs, yet he has been eager to accept campaign contributions and negotiate with these very same banks and corporations behind closed doors in order to advance his political agenda.

Finally, President Obama also exacerbated partisan division, and he has made it clear that he intends to demonize the Republicans and former President George W. Bush in the fall campaign. In April, the Democratic National Committee released a video in which the president directly addressed his divide-and-conquer campaign strategy, with an appeal to: "young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women who powered our victory in 2008 [to] stand together once again."

President Obama's divisive approach to governance has weakened us as a people and paralyzed our political culture. Meanwhile, the Republican leadership has failed to put forth an agenda that is more positive, unifying or inclusive. We are stronger when we debate issues and purpose, and we are all weaker when we divide by race and class. We will pay a price for this type of politics.

Mr. Caddell served as a pollster for President Jimmy Carter. Mr. Schoen, who served as a pollster for President Bill Clinton, is the author of "The Political Fix" (Henry Holt, 2010).

Obama's 'Private Sector doing Fine' Comment Becomes a Public Gaffe

June 8, 2012
By SUDEEP REDDY

It was just six words from a 29-minute news conference, but President Barack Obama's assertion that "the private sector is doing fine" looks primed to play a starring role in this already-fevered campaign season.

"The private sector is doing fine. Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government," which, he said, isn't getting the support it needs from Washington.

Within minutes, Republicans including House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), the Senate minority leader, reacted.

Mr. Obama's Republican presidential challenger, Mitt Romney, called the comment "an extraordinary miscalculation and misunderstanding" by the president. "I think he's defining what it means to be detached and out of touch with the American people," Mr. Romney said at a campaign stop in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mr. Obama sought to clarify the remarks later in the day, saying "it is absolutely clear that the economy is not doing fine." He nonetheless again noted the rebound in private-sector job growth and corporate profits to contend that the private sector has "not been the biggest drag on the economy."

Either way, in an election year likely to be defined by voters' perceptions of the economy, the damage was done.

Idiot Obama still doesn't get it. How could he as he's an aloof Millionaire that is nothing more than an empty suit campaigning for Cash more than trying to learn the craft of "Governing."

Obama = Fail

In the May Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, conducted before the latest disappointing jobs data, more than half polled said they disapproved of the president's handling of the economy. A third of Americans said the country is on the right track.

Jared Bernstein, a liberal economist and former Obama economic adviser, called Mr. Obama's comment a clear gaffe. He said it won't do lasting damage "because that's not the way he sees it, as he says dozens of times per day."

Still, he added, "He certainly didn't help himself." ROFL!

Obama: "Stay the Course"...going over the Cliff

Obama Sticks With His "Doing Fine" Message Despite Criticism

June 12, 2012
By Peter Nicholas

A day after prominent Democratic strategists warned that the party’s basic message isn’t working, President Barack Obama spoke at a fundraising event near Baltimore and delivered a version of the same speech he has been giving for months.

Democracy Corps, a group founded by longtime Democratic strategist James Carville and pollster Stanley Greenberg, released a memo on Monday based on focus group sessions held with residents of two important battleground states: Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The memo, which Messrs. Carville and Greenberg helped write, says:“What is clear from this fresh look at public consciousness on the economy is how difficult this period has been for both non-college-educated and college-educated voters – and how vulnerable the prevailing narratives articulated by national Democratic leaders are.

“We will face an impossible headwind in November if we do not move to a new narrative, one that contextualizes the recovery but, more importantly, focuses on what we will do to make a better future for the middle class.’’

The memo includes wrenching quotes from people who took part in the focus groups.

“I had to go in for hernia surgery on Friday,’’ said a man from Columbus, Ohio.“I’m unemployed, you know it’s expensive, they don’t care. Nobody cares.’’

Simply making the case “that things are moving in the right direction’’ is a strategy destined to “fail,’’ the memo says.

People “want to know the plans for making things better in a serious way – not just focused on finishing up the work of the recovery.’’

So where's Obama today? Off to another Fundraiser for Millionaires...

Dem Pollsters to Obama: Shift the Economic Narrative or Fail Re-Election

June 11, 2012

What is clear from this fresh look at public consciousness on the economy is how difficult this period has been for both non-college-educated and college-educated voters – and how vulnerable the prevailing narratives articulated by national Democratic leaders are.[1] We will face an impossible headwind in November if we do not move to a new narrative, one that contextualizes the recovery but, more importantly, focuses on what we will do to make a better future for the middle class.

It is elites who are creating a conventional wisdom that an incumbent president must run on his economic performance – and therefore must convince voters that things are moving in the right direction. They are wrong, and that will fail. The voters are very sophisticated about the character of the economy; they know who is mainly responsible for what went wrong and they are hungry to hear the President talk about the future. They know we are in a new normal where life is a struggle – and convincing them that things are good enough for those who have found jobs is a fool’s errand. They want to know the plans for making things better in a serious way – not just focused on finishing up the work of the recovery.

Obama and the Democrats must try to disqualify Romney by making the case that Obama is the lesser of two evils, without much feeling of hope.

While Obama Yucks it up with his Millionaire buddies and his Patient Dumping Wife goes on Million Dollar Vacations, Americans Suffer

Here's what Carville and Greenberg are hearing....

I’m getting paid $7.70 an hour …I’m 53 years old…If I want a job, that’s what I’ve got to do. And actually… I’m having problems trying to get a full-time job because people are looking at it and saying, you know, we’ve only got a couple years. Most companies are looking and saying, we probably got a couple good years out of you, possibly less, that’s about it. And I mean, they all – used to be the laws were there that says, actually, you’re supposed to get two, 10-minute breaks… and a half hour lunch. Laws have changed now, companies don’t have to give that… And they’re working us to the bone. It’s like, wow, we’re back in the 1900s, you know…Because you’re just slave labor, you know.(Non-college-educated man, Columbus, OH)

Things are really tough, I’m self-employed, I’m just drumming up work and it’s just, like, living, like, from pay to pay, from job to job. And you know, I can’t buy things for my kids or my grandkids like I – like I was before. And it upsets me, because you know, come Christmas time and stuff like that, their birthdays and stuff like that, you know, I can’t give them what I want to get them.(Non-college-educated man, Columbus, OH)

Obama dines with Lada Gaga and George Clooney at another Millionaire Fundraiser...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

I live with my first husband, which is not the greatest thing in the world but anyways, I do have two children, 31 and 26. The oldest has three kids who lives with us…And I’m hoping to get this job so I can get out of the house.(Non-college-educated woman, Columbus, OH)

Right now I live with my family. I moved to Columbus two years ago…And I’m unemployed right now.(Non-college-educated woman, Columbus, OH)

And the economy is very difficult for young people. Both college-educated and non-college-educated participants talk about their grown children living back at home while they look for work, pay off student loans, or get back on their feet.

Have two kids, one’s a high school junior, the other is 26 years old, both living at home.(College-educated man, Bala Cynwyd, PA)

My daughter is back with me at home, she’s 25 … Very expensive and in this day and age to try and get a college education, a lot of young people can’t afford to be on their own.(Non-college-educated woman, Columbus, OH)

After that they look to see how to be creative in reducing costs in the face of this new economy.

When they talk with their friends over coffee or in their kitchens, they talk about what they can do for free — finding new ways to do old things. There is simply no budget for leisure. One non-college-educated woman in Columbus said “By the time I pay my car payments, utilities, and property taxes, three-fourths of my retirement check is gone.”

Probably what can we find to do that’s free. I was just saying I’m a total expert on that with four kids. I can find something for all of them to do and I was offended when I was expected to pay $5 at the Columbus Commons this weekend for all day.(Non-college-educated woman, Columbus, OH)

Many have found new ways to make extra money, engaging in a kind of creative economy of necessity. One non-college-educated woman in Columbus, Ohio noted,“I make and earn extra money, like yard sales.” They talk about the ingenuity required to make or save money—like collecting bottles or scrapping unwanted metal.

We recycle, we do cans, we do metal. On trash [day] when people set their garbage out, we go trash picking. I know it sounds nasty but dumpster diving, whatever.(Non-college-educated woman, Columbus, OH)

[When we sold our house we made money by] scrapping…we took the personal possessions that we had…and sold it to the scrap yards.(Non-college-educated woman, Columbus, OH)

http://www.democracycorps.com/focus/2012/06/s...

It's time to get rid of the POS Obama and put someone who can get the economy going again. It's time for President Romeny.

Barack Hussein Obama (Jackass): "The Economy is doing Fine!"

Tough in the more affluent suburbs too.

Even if they don’t know people at the scrap yard or on food stamps, college-educated suburban voters are struggling with new realities too. They find themselves in situations they did not anticipate or budget for years ago. Some who had previously retired have gone back to work or are looking for part-time work. One man retired and started working in real estate part-time to supplement his pension, but noted that his income from that has gone down over the last few years. College-educated suburban voters worry about the cost of college education and have suffered from stagnant incomes, pay cuts, and layoffs.

Well my salary went down quite a bit and my husband would have liked to retire too but… with the stock market and everything else and it’s frustrating. And I have three granddaughters and you know I worry for them because of… especially college, where’s the money coming from you know?(College-educated woman, Bala Cynwyd, PA)

At work, salaries were frozen a few years ago. Everybody took a ten percent cut. There were layoffs. Health care is going up. My take-home pay is…less than it was five years ago.(College-educated man, Bala Cynwyd, PA)
