Blah! Ok technically it may be BBQ, but... Dickey's is just another Fast-Food Chain attempt at BBQ. Small portions for the price and not the best of quality. Sadly, they are taking over the BBQ business and local real Q-joints; far and wide, will suffer.

Yes, Capitalism at its finest, but never acceptable when it comes to BBQ.

I wasn't aware that there were any local real Q-joints in Vacaville. This is a local franchisee so it is still owned locally even though he probably does have to take some direction from the home office. If a local mom and pop wanted to compete they should have no problem. All they have to do is offer better food, better service at a comparable price. They would have the advantage because they wouldn't have to pay franchise fees.

Vacaville suffers in the realm of BBQ. They have come and go; magnificent BBQ is so-so, but you can't stick to Vacaville when considering BBQ; just like we have no good steakhouses. Dickey's is a franchise, as are McDonald's.
The local Dickey's has to use same guidelines and resources as all.

I'm just picky about my Q... Even I have to draw a line sometimes.

Question - Will Dickey's still be able to smoke their meats when there's a "Spare the Air Day" declared by the Air Resources Board?

Here's their Website: http://www.dickeys.com/

Papa John's Pizza just closed stores in Vacaville & Fairfield. 5 gets you 10 that Dickey's doesn't last beyond next Memorial Day. Neither will Pizza Pucks and many other eateries after the official beginning of Obama Care.

In what cities have you eaten at one of these franchises?

The last real BBQ joint I got food from was in rohnert park years ago and I went by there a couple of months ago and they are shut down. Even the Q joint in esparto closed down. There is a place a block away from the auction yard in Petaluma that used to do real BBQ but I don't know if they still do because when I'm over there I'm too busy at the auction to wander around town.

They will. They are mandated to have so many filters that they get exemptions. When you go to some Q Joints and there is little smell; its the filters. Kinda takes the fun out of going. If you can't smell it 2 blocks away, where is the fun in that....

Tried in Houston TX and recently in Concord CA (it may actually be in Walnut Creek). Just not a fan.

My favorite Joints (other than my own Q-ing): LC's BBQ Kansas City MO, Rolling Bones BBQ Atlanta GA, SaltLick BBQ Driftwood TX, and JR's BBQ Sacramento CA.

The quest for great BBQ should never end....

That could be what happened to the places that I mentioned. They both had real wood fired pits outdoors with only the breeze as a ventilation system. I'll have to check on the place in Petaluma to see if they still burn wood, but from what you mentioned, probably not.

You should have been out at my place last weekend, we went through almost a third of a cord of fruit wood between the fire pit and the BBQ's. We did cook up a few chickens and sme pork ribs but otherwise we were more grilling than BBQ ing since bone in rib steaks were the main food of choice.

There's one at the sun valley mall in concord and one off I-80 as you head toward reno. Never been, but did look at the menu on line. You're right.... Expensive. I will try some day with the same reservations I have for Dickey's...

Daves famous BBQ is simply the best, too bad they are not coming to Vacaville. There are only two around, one in reno and one in San Jose. They are mostly southwest locales

We also blew through about 750 rounds of ammunition and eliminated various targets including the senseless murder of five or six perfectly good watermelons.
