House Cuts Food-Stamp Funds From Farm Bill

Jul 12, 2013 Full story: Wall Street Journal 93

A sharply divided House approved a bill Thursday that would set farm policy for the next five years, using a strategy that pleased conservative Republicans, angered Democrats and left the future of farm programs and food stamps in doubt.

There and easy fix to food stamps problem,
Increase the min wage to a living wage of about 16$ an hour . no one working full time 40 hour week will be able to quilfy for snap or any other assistance because they will be just not be poor enough anymore. problem solved ,it would solve most other problems in the economy too.

You really think that is the solution?

Have you completed high school? Considering how you write, I'd say no, so I'm going to enlighten you a bit.

What do you think the consequences of doubling labor costs for businesses that employ 74 million wage earners might be?

Most of those businesses would go out of business. Any that wished to survive would have to double the price of their goods and services, just to cover their costs.

Are you willing to pay $10 for a Big Mac? How about $6 for an order of medium fries?$20 for a large pizza?

Finish high school, go to college, if you can, study economics and then come back with a viable solution.

You know, we would not have to worry about a foodstamp program if the poverty rates would not go up as much as they have under obamas term, 13 to 15.1%, just under his watch. I guess he is not concerned about the poor.

How do jobs get created? Why don't you create some jobs?
Most employers in this country are small to medium sized businesses and many of the owners aren't the "rich".
And those businesses are taxed and regulated to pieces, and some states are worse than others.
They also have to carry liability insurance, workmans compensation insurance, they have to provide insurance benefits for employees. The taxes they pay, per employee, just keep getting higher and higher, and most Americans have no idea what those costs are or how high they are.
They carry liability for whatever product or service they manufacture or provide, they're in constant fear of lawsuits in our sue happy country and of unions coming into their businesses, forcing them to pay even more wages and better benefits, until there is little or no profit left.
On top of all of that, there has to be a market for whatever service or product they provide.
"Create jobs" is a great campaign slogan, but it is far more complicated an endeavor than you seem to think it is.
Ok don't create jobs and pay taxes for welfare...You have a choice rich people....Create jobs or pay bit higher taxes for welfare...Got to do one or the other..

We have generational welfare...lots of it in this country. There are third generation welfare recipients, and the two generations before them stayed on welfare even when there were plenty of jobs. While you can't paint everyone with the same brush, many of those recipients don't want to work. And if they can live off the government, why should they?
We have people who are carrying balances on their ETB cards in the thousands of dollars range, but our government doesn't seem to notice that they obviously don't need the bennies they are recieving.
There are stores, bars and restuarants cashing people's ETB cards in exchange for cash money. A recent report in Florida, where people went undercover to 30 stores found 20 of them were doing this. You can get $80 cash for $120 in SNAP. Why isn't the government investigating it?
We have millions on welfare and SNAP working under the table and some are living better than many middle class families because their rent, food and medical is paid for by the government. Government accounting agencies are well aware of this...in 2011, one of them estimated that 17% of American households are obviously earning undeclared income. So, what are they doing about it?
If the government would do their job, we'd probably cut means tested welfare and foodstamps by 25% or more, just by getting rid of the fraud. That would free up over $200 billion for those who really need a hand up.
I agree get rid of the crap and fraud. But to say lets just cut that means ones who need it get hurt,. Also that 200 billion is way off...That is more then the whole budget for welfare and food stamps...Now want to make cuts and get rid of fraud and crap lets look at the military ....WHEW there is some waste.

Ironic that the National Park Service, which is also comes under the Dept. of Agriculture, posts these signs at National Park entrances:

"PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS! ANIMALS MAY BECOME DEPENDANT AND NOT LEARN HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES."

Why $16/hr?

Who can live on that??

Why not $20/hr or $30/hr???

I need at least $50/hr to live the life I'm accustomed to.

How about we increase the minimum wage to $1million/yr; that way everyone is a millionaire and no one would be poor??

Problem solved......

If we just lowered the official govt poverty rate then less people would be in poverty and less people would be on food stamps.

Because they make more money with the cheaper overseas labor and no safety/environmental regulations to have to comply with.

The only reason companies used to manufacture goods in America was because they could employ child labor at slave wages and dump all their toxic byproducts into the air & water.

That's how the rich got rich, and they're determined to stay rich.

Obama glossing over poverty? Study shows issue rarely mentioned by president. President Obama hasn't visited a black neighborhood in America since being elected.........but maybe has in Africa where it can't be avoided and the visit cost over a hundred million dollars.

Oklahoma is just one of 15 states in which less than a third of all adults have an associate’s degree or higher. Residents with graduate or professional degrees are also scarce in Oklahoma. Residents who do have an advanced degree in Oklahoma do not earn much — the median earnings for adults with graduate or professional degrees is just $51,631, the fifth-lowest in the nation. Of Oklahoma’s adults with less than a high school degree, 28.5% live below the poverty line, compared to the 4.3% with a bachelor’s degree or higher.

It's the propaganda being spewed by the democrat media following the dictates of Obama position papers. The position papers are sent out and published by 'news'papers,'news' sites, editors and tv stations to influence readers/voters.

The machine is gearing up for an interesting 2014 election.

2014 = a GOOD opportunity to take the Senate. Obama has already delayed the Obamacare business mandate and the cigarette smoking health penalty for FEAR of voting reprisals in 2014.

The IRS scandal hits home with EVERYBODY. It's a government entity that strikes fear in those who fill out their forms. Obama used it to get back at his political foes and the American public sees how THEIR PERSONAL INFORMATION can be accessed and released by those who are IN POWER with little penalities for those who give out PERSONAL INFORMATION.

What the democrats started will come back to bite them in the butt. Think about that, Harry Reid.

FDR and the Democrats were even against that Idea which is the reason for the passage of the Stabilization Act of 1942 which is how FDR kept inflation down by keeping wages down.

Stabilization Act of 1942 formally entitled "An Act to Amend the Emergency Price Control Act of 1942" is what gave FDR the authority to issue Executive Order 9250 Establishing the Office of Economic Stabilization with TITLE II Wage and Salary Stabilization Policy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabilization_Ac...

then by FDR & the Democrats created another problem that we have today because of cost which is Health Insurance and Employer Sponsered Health Insurance which was the result of the wage stabilization under the Act that employers, unable to provide higher salaries to attract or retain employees, began to offer insurance plans, including health care packages, as a fringe benefit, thereby beginning the practice of employer-sponsored health insurance.

Just spouting BS
Or are you really that dumb?
(Rhetorical question, cupcake;))

On Friday, March 30, CapitolBeatOK reported the four-year graduation rate at the University of Oklahoma is 35.7 percent, according to OU-generated data. A March 13 advertisement that ran in four state newspapers had placed the graduation rate at 67.8 percent, touting it as “the highest graduation rate in state history.”
The higher figure, however, is a six-year graduation rate. The full text of the OU advertisement was provided in the March 30 story.

OU describes itself as ‘a four-year public university.’ When the man on the street hears ‘graduation rate,’ in his mind he’s thinking four years. Indeed, many people will doubtless be surprised to learn that there even is such a thing as a ‘six-year graduation rate.’

And a source of course.
