House Cuts Food-Stamp Funds From Farm Bill

A sharply divided House approved a bill Thursday that would set farm policy for the next five years, using a strategy that pleased conservative Republicans, angered Democrats and left the future of farm programs and food stamps in doubt.

nah, the shirkers would just go get jobs again. They are not poor, they are lazy; 47% are not indigent. What percentage do you think in this nation "needs" assistance and what percentage are just "working" the system?

All kinds of systems being “worked”– by lobbyists, investment bankers, defense contractors, big private & corporate payouts to crooks in Congress – all of which make welfare and food stamps look like loose change by comparison. But right-wingers never get their lacy, frilly panties bunched up their cracks about that – nope, they just want to screw the poor cause they vote Democrat.
No kidding. How is expecting the poor to elevate themselves through working screwing them. The screwing is happening to the working schmoe who gets ripped off from every angle through taxes and high goods prices. Less in our pockets to support our families whilst the welfare queens collect their checks and the subsidy leaches get their ill gotten gains. You can't look at one and not see the other, buddy.

For a great many people, if they have no legitimate way to feed their children, they will do whatever is left. When robbery is the only way they can support their children, they will. When society is so cruel that your children must starve in the land of plenty, then you will do what you can to destroy that society, and it deserves to be destroyed. There are already about half of the people that cannot participate in any of the advantages of American society. All it takes is a spark for them to rise up and overthrow the yoke of oppression that has been placed on their backs.

If there was 10-20-30 million jobs unfilled I would say yea cut welfare and food stamps off. But since there isn't even enough jobs for 5% of people who don't have a job I say no...How would you feel being robbed and mugged and attacked everyday for pocket change for food..That is what will happen.
How do jobs get created? Why don't you create some jobs?

Most employers in this country are small to medium sized businesses and many of the owners aren't the "rich".

And those businesses are taxed and regulated to pieces, and some states are worse than others.

They also have to carry liability insurance, workmans compensation insurance, they have to provide insurance benefits for employees. The taxes they pay, per employee, just keep getting higher and higher, and most Americans have no idea what those costs are or how high they are.

They carry liability for whatever product or service they manufacture or provide, they're in constant fear of lawsuits in our sue happy country and of unions coming into their businesses, forcing them to pay even more wages and better benefits, until there is little or no profit left.

On top of all of that, there has to be a market for whatever service or product they provide.

"Create jobs" is a great campaign slogan, but it is far more complicated an endeavor than you seem to think it is.

But not a winning electoral strategy for the GOPee-bag party. They've already got ongoing wars against; women, gays, immigrants, and the middle class – so making more war on the poor only puts them further out of touch with most voters – not to mention just out of touch with humanity in general.
It’s what we've all come to expect from the party of NO by now – so they should come to expect more election results like last year’s.
War on the poor? Get real. If people are eligible for food stamps, they'll get them. They never belonged in the farm bill in the first place.

Make better jobs for the younger tax-payers. The GOPee-bag party is supposed to be all about business – so let them for once put their money where their mouths are. Stop letting all the money flow only upwards to the top 1% and start actually investing in America again.
Oh yeah, but then they couldn't get re-elected without the support of their corporate fat-cat overlords. The solution is simple - institute REAL, MEANINGFUL campaign finance reform - and craft the law to be absolutely free of loop-holes now and forever.
Take off your tinfoil party affiliation hat and look at who the corporate fat-cat overlords are actually throwing all their money at in exchange for favors and influence.

I'll give you a hint: The party letter starts with "D".

It's not like you can't discover this with a few keystrokes of your computer. Kindly enlighten yourself.

Atleast they should try to create jobs..Or shut up and don't complain about welfare...The rich have gotten filthy rich as the working class got poor....Either create jobs or shut up and pay your taxes.....Or I guess start killing millions of people.
The burden of all the means tested welfare is being born by the middle class, and they're the ones complaining.

The rich who are getting richer are the 1% of the 1%.

Funny, I thought everyone knew that by now. You're talking points are sorely outdated.

We have generational welfare...lots of it in this country. There are third generation welfare recipients, and the two generations before them stayed on welfare even when there were plenty of jobs. While you can't paint everyone with the same brush, many of those recipients don't want to work. And if they can live off the government, why should they?

We have people who are carrying balances on their ETB cards in the thousands of dollars range, but our government doesn't seem to notice that they obviously don't need the bennies they are recieving.

There are stores, bars and restuarants cashing people's ETB cards in exchange for cash money. A recent report in Florida, where people went undercover to 30 stores found 20 of them were doing this. You can get $80 cash for $120 in SNAP. Why isn't the government investigating it?

We have millions on welfare and SNAP working under the table and some are living better than many middle class families because their rent, food and medical is paid for by the government. Government accounting agencies are well aware of this...in 2011, one of them estimated that 17% of American households are obviously earning undeclared income. So, what are they doing about it?

If the government would do their job, we'd probably cut means tested welfare and foodstamps by 25% or more, just by getting rid of the fraud. That would free up over $200 billion for those who really need a hand up.

So the House Republicans voted for how many billion$ of welfare for the farm industry, but can't vote for a dime of welfare to others? perhaps the poor need a better lobby group...

you'd think the religious cult people would be all up in arms about this lack of welfare to the poor...

I am against all Welfare including Social and Corporate Welfare and including for the Farm Industry which I have seen the affects of that which has done nothing but create another entitlement society just like what the Pseudo Liberals Democrats & LBJ's Great Society did which is why I am against that and its failures socially & economically.

Are you Democrat gullible, or just stupid?

The bill passed by the House on Thursday didn't deal with food stamps at all. And the lack of congressional action on food stamps could keep the $80 billion-a-year program untouched by any cuts.

Republicans said a separate food stamp bill would come at a later date. Until that happens, food stamps will continue as they are. They are paid for by annual spending bills and Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama have strongly objected to making major cuts.
