Please join us in Haiti in May and you can see this for yourself. It DOES happen. Don't make judgment on people who are so desperate and starving that they are forced to eat mud. Go help them instead of criticizing.
Why is it that Haitians are forced to eat mud whereas your Dominican Neighbours live in a First world country? Before 1804, and under French rule, the GDP of Haiti exceeded that of the United states, making it the world's most productive colony!
Not only could Haiti feed itself, but it could also export sugar to the rest of the world.

After independence, Haitians did a lot of stupid things:
-They killed all Mulattos. Mulattos formed the administrative and economic backbone of post-independence haiti.
-They invaded the Dominican republic, souring relations with their only neighbour.
-They completely deforested their part of Hispaniola. This ruined agriculture and eroded topsoil, leaving Haitians with nothing to eat but mud.
-Of course, leaders like Papa Doc did their part.
-On top of Biblical catastrophe, Haitians never developed enough common sense to stop fucking! Haiti's birth rate of 6 kids per woman helped keep the country perpetually poor.

When I see Haitians eating mud, despite having once-fertile land, and despite being surrounded by some of the best fishing waters on the planet, I cannot help but blame them for their own misery.

I feel that any aid to Haiti is wasted. The best thing we can do is blockade the island till Haitians figure out this new-fangled thing called 'civilization'.
