Will fast-food protests spur higher minimum wage?

Aug 5, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Northern Michigan News

Terrance Wise has two jobs in Kansas City - one at a burger joint, a second at a pizza restaurant - but he says his paychecks aren't enough to buy shoes for his three daughters and insure his 15-year-old car.

I normally don't even roll down the window for guys holding "will work for food" signs.

However, when I see those poor sign flippers in that orange gorilla outfit, standing outside a fast food joint in the blazing summer heat, I want to roll down the window and give them a few bucks. That's got to be the suckiest suck job ever.

Ever work for a paving crew in the summer heat? work being the key word there, not just standing in one spot...

roofer tough job in summer too, as is mover....getting those triple dressers down the stairs and out to the street for 12-15 hours a day is hard. Even Mexicans have been known to shun that kind of worth ethic

I think minimum wage and working class wages are ok. It is just the top 10% wages that need to be cut in half so prices can go down so working class can afford common things. No CEO should make 10-20-30-50 million a year.
So you think that the government should limit how much a person can make?

Would you be in favor of this if you were the one making 20 million, or is your position based on the belief that you will never be one in that classification so it's ok?

Who's forcing those people to be interns for no pay?

Here's a suggestion- if you want to be a paid intern, then DON'T TAKE AN UPAID POSITION!
Only rich kids can afford to take unpaid internships. It's not fair to middle and lower-income students.

Internships, whether they are for the government or for private industry are positions where PEOPLE WITH EDUCATION get experience.

Don't have to be rich. Just have to be smart (and probably well-connected).

The experience someone gets as an intern means WAY MORE THAN MONEY.

To get a top notch internship you have to be well-connected, which means most likely your rich. It's not fair, but I'm happy to see more students speaking out about this injustice.

Just more personal attacks while refraining from addressing the issue. It's okay. It's hard being a constant apologist for greed and obscene profits.

So feel free to start a business and pay all your employees $1 million/year.

No one is stopping you.

Or start a private accredited university and allow all to attend for free.

No one is stopping you.

Don't blame unions for pensions going by the wayside. Blame greedy corporations for dumping defined-pensions in favor of risky 401(k)'s. You should be angry at corporations for allowing your retirement savings to be gambled on Wall Street. It's casino capitalism, where the 1% always wins and 99% always lose.
WRONG ANSWER ! these union mucky m,ucks took their members money and didnt do anything when the pensions were stolen, not one corporate jerk jailed, not one union asked for an investigation, not one did anything to represent their members, the united steel workers international, spent more time molly coddling illegal alines than watching pensions, workers at gale, lawnboy, evinrude, omc, johnson and other lost everything, no tra benefits, no job training , just a flood of imports while the union rep looked out for his own fat ass, these were your big democrats, too, a pack of faires and commies the whole lot of them

Unions are democratic organizations. Officers are elected by the rank- and- file. Vote in a new slate of officers.
